Stuff for Steps

I wanted to give a huge thanks to those who contributed to our conversation last week about Catholic blended families and step parenting. Since my plea for your help, I’ve learned quite a lot about the prevalence of blended families in our Catholic Church, and the relatively few resources available to them.
I’ve been in search of a good book on this topic, and have yet to find one. So if any of you have suggestions, please share them in the comments below. In the mean time, I wanted to share the following links, which provide me some helpful information in my research:
Catholic Digest Article: Where Does Faith Fit in My Blended Family by Gregory K. Popcak, PhD
Catholic Digest Article: We Have a Blended Family by Bill Dodds
Steps Towards Success for Step Families by Bill Boomer, Director for the Dept. for Marriage & Family Ministry in the Diocese of Cleveland
Positive Steps to Take in a Step Family Situation from the Archdiocese of Chicago
Does your parish or diocese offer special resources for blended families? If so, would you please share a link or the name of the program in the comments below? Also, I thought some of you might enjoy the following prayer:
A Prayer for Step Families
Blessed are you, God of creation! It is difficult to parent two batches of kids and love them into one family. Look on stepfamilies, Lord. Give them courage to build new relationships, the willingness to adjust to one another’s habits, likes, and dislikes, and an ability to laugh over small things. Bless all the grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins who are coming on board as family. Bless this widening embrace of family with patience, joy and love. Amen.
