T.R.U.T.H.

I was walking along in my neighborhood, unsettled, but doing some of my best thinking and praying of the chaotic day. Then it came to me: I was unsettled because I was in a search for Truth.
“Lord, where can I find Truth?” You know, the Truth that combats the relativism of our crazy world. The Truth that cuts through the junk and helps it all make sense. The Truth that gives me the courage to peek out from under the covers and even get out of bed in the morning.
I’m pretty sure God was thinking, “Where to find Truth?! Wow, you know I love you and all, but when I created you people I really thought you’d be much farther along than this by now.”
But instead, he hit me squarely in the heart with this:
“Where to find Truth? You know in your heart there’s only one place to find it. Think of what the letters of that word can stand for. T.R.U.T.H. … Try Reaching Up To Heaven.”
I’m totally serious; it really went down like this. God zapped me with the coolest acronym ever.
He told me that we find Truth in heaven. I know it’s simplistic, but was any statement ever more, well, true?
I wasn’t alone in my search that day. Every human being — even those who don’t know it — is searching for Truth. And when we do reach up to heaven and see this Truth, our lives are changed. Forever.
When Pope Benedict visited the United States in 2008, he proclaimed something very important to the young people gathered at St. Joseph’s Seminary in Yonkers, N.Y.:
“Dear friends, truth is not an imposition. Nor is it simply a set of rules. It is a discovery of the One who never fails us; the One whom we can always trust. In seeking truth we come to live by belief because ultimately truth is a person: Jesus Christ.”
This Advent season, when you find yourself searching for Truth, just remember: Try Reaching Up To Heaven. Maybe you’ll be blessed to meet Our Lord … as he is reaching down to earth for Christmas.
