Thoughts at the end of a long day

Why God invented wrestling

That I see wrestling as a God-given gift to this world says a lot about my life. Are you in the same boat? Do you see the Father’s love for us when you think about wrestling, when you watch your boys engage in such an activity?

I realize, as I write this, that there may be certain people among us who would turn their nose at such a notion. Some people, I would image, might find wrestling utterly profane, maybe even highly inappropriate. I would encourage those people to move right along—I don’t want to offend.

My thoughts, as I inch closer to bed for the night, are that I think wrestling, and lo many other forms of hand-to-hand combat, are somehow just what the doctor ordered when it comes to boys and dads. While I haven’t totally figured out the creature that is the human male, I feel like I’m getting a little closer to perfect understanding every day.

And as I sit here and relive the images of my husband and boys sneaking in a little floor time just before bed, I realize once again what an absolute honor and joy it is to get a close up look at the strange and curious life of these creatures. Life with boys is never dull. Tonight, I feel lucky that I know this information first-hand.

When Daddy is a wrestling coach, the little girls get in on it too—but Daddy still hopes for a boy (also known as a wrestler) with each pregnancy!

I feel exactly the same way. Not too many things delight me quite as much as the daily wrestling matches between my husband and two young sons. Thank you for the sweet post. smile

Growing up with four older brothers I watched many, many wrestling matches. Sometimes I was very happy to be pulled into those very fun, and very athletic “wars”. Today I am a mother of six children. I have two sons and four girls. My eight year old son is smack dab in the middle of the girls. He starts the wrestling matches and the girls are very happy to get involved.

So true about the girls! I remember many a fun wrestling match with my dad (and brothers and sisters). I’m sure he went easier on the girls, though.

My 13 yr old ds has been wrestling since he was in 3rd grade.  He doesnt’ have any brothers so my husband & I thought that wrestling would be a healthy outlet for him.  He’s grown so much in the sport and it’s wonderful to watch his physical skills improve.  I still have a difficult time watching his matches, but I’m constantly impressed by his courage when he enters the ring.  Wrestling is not for the faint hearted!
