To Me, It's Not So Super

When I was at the grocery store on Monday, there were noticeably higher-than-usual amounts of things like soda and queso dip on sale. It puzzled me at first, but then I remembered that we were kicking off the week of preparation for the big game. The Super Bowl. The most-watched football game of the year.
(Probably. What do I know about it?)
Danielle invited you to post about the food you’re making for your celebration and link to it here. I am very interested in that, because I love food, especially appetizery party snack food like people serve at the Super Bowl. I get to bring a dessert to bring to the party my sister and brother-in-law are throwing on Sunday, and I am excited. I’ll take any excuse to bake!
But as far as the actual game goes… well I know from Danielle’s post that the Steelers aren’t playing. Neither are the Detroit Lions, because I would have heard about that. Beyond that, I can’t tell you. Is the state of Florida involved? Or somewhere else in the south? And maybe somewhere in the midwest?
The truth is, football just doesn’t do it for me. When I was a student at the University of Michigan I, just like all my friends, bought cheap season tickets to the football games. And I ended up skipping half the games, because it turned out I didn’t want to waste my Saturdays standing in the bleachers watching a bunch of guys in shoulder pads throw around a ball on a field in patterns that were incomprehensible to me.
As for the Super Bowl: I’ll go to my sister’s party, because friends will be there. The food will taste delicious. I might take a slight interest in some of the commercials. We’ll go home before the game is over to get our kids in bed at a decent hour, and the next morning it won’t even occur to me to check which team won. I understand why some people care. I just don’t happen to be one of them.
What is this weekend, for you? A thrilling pinnacle of sports-induced excitement? Or just the plain, boring first weekend in February?
