You all know know this is the blog for anyone grappling with the meaning of life or the cleaning of laundry.
So today, let’s talk laundry. Specifically, laundry hampers.
I love my laundry hamper. Or I suppose I should say, I loved my laundry hamper. Because it’s certainly seen brighter days.
I have one of those cute, wooden, folding hampers with a linen bag that ties on. The exact model I have is no longer available, but it looks kind of like this. Or it did. Now one of the ties is torn off and various parts of the cloth are stained in such a way that even multiple bleachings can’t do the trick anymore.
I suppose I have gotten my $30 out of this one.
So I am in the market for a new laundry hamper. I am partial to this style because it suits me, but I am not opposed to wicker. Mostly I am concerned about:
1) Prettiness. I like to feel good about my laundry equipment and, whether I like it or not, a dirty clothes hamper becomes a significant part of the decor in my family’s bathroom. No plastic.
2) Capacity. I do all my laundry pretty much every day, so it doesn’t have to be huge. But it does need to hold a decent amount of clothing. Those cutesy little nursery hampers need not apply.
3) Durability. With ten people stuffing their gross clothes into it, including five boys, my hamper needs to be a little bit tough.
4) Clean-ability. One of the things I loved most about my old hamper was the fact that I could throw the linen bag part of it in the washing machine. I like the look of wicker and even some wooden hampers I have seen, but do they get smelly or gross in a way that I won’t be able to fix?
So my fellow shoppers and laundry maids, let’s talk about laundry. What kind of clothes hamper works for your family and what do you recommend?
