Two Good

Blaise had a birthday today!
Back in the fall of 2008, I blogged about Camilla’s second birthday. Blaise was born about three months later, and now he’s two himself. Wow.
I don’t have the same introspective thoughts on the blessing of parenthood to share today, but I think that’s okay. With two kids, and especially with one of them being a very busy toddler, I have less time for introspection now. I still appreciate my children just as much.
At just two, our little guy is (mostly) a delight. I think the so-called “terrible” twos might be stronger in him than they were in his sister - we’re getting a taste of tantrums already - but that’s a small part of life with him. Otherwise, he’s all energy and excitement and hugs and kisses and newfound pronunciation skills. (He said his sister’s name correctly for the first time yesterday, thrilling both of them.) I’m enchanted by him.
Today, on Blaise’s birthday, he spent five minutes after dinner running full-speed around the coffee table. Bryan and I had just been moving furniture and discussing how someday when the kids are grown we’ll get all new, nice things… and then we caught sight of our boy. He often runs in circles, always with a grin on his face. He abandons himself fully to the pursuit, so much that his body seems to get ahead of his feet. Sometimes he falls, but that doesn’t cloud his enjoyment of the running.
As we watched Blaise, my husband and I grinned along with him, and agreed: new furniture will be nice, but this is so much better. Two is so much better.
We’re loving it.
