Weekend Reads & Listens

All week I’ve collected interesting articles to blog about.
But I find in many instances I’ve nothing to add, I just want to call attention to them.
So here’s a list of links that may or may not be of interest for your weekend reading pleasure.
Gendercide. A blockbuster piece from the Economist on the worldwide shortage of girls. It’s not just China and India!
Bearing Witness. Three audio downloads of a series of lectures Prof. J. Budziszewski gave for the Humanitas Project. He is one of my favorite essayists and the lectures are fabulous. There’s “Keeping the Faith in the Dark Night of the Culture,” “The Revenge of Conscience,” and “Cutting Through the Smoke of Self-Deception.”
Culture of Divorce, Culture of Death. Another of my faves, Prof. Anthony Esolen re-runs a beautiful essay about the passing of his mother-in-law.
Pray for the Pope! In Europe, especially Britain and Germany, he’s being falsely accused of being connected to a pedophile scandal that has nothing to do with him. This column explains.
The New York Times profiles Gary Krupp, a Jewish businessman who calls Pius XII the greatest war hero of all time.
Something for the Jane fans: my friend R. Ortiz is writing pithy reflections on virtues in Jane Austen books for Lent.
Low-fat or low-carb? depends on your genes. And (my favorite news) wine whittles your waistline.
Long lives the queen: Queen Elizabeth II w/ each American President since Truman.
