What Your Kids Will Be Wanting Soon

Today's "Stevenote" offered a few goodies

If you’re not a geek, you likely didn’t even know that today was the “Stevenote” - a major Apple announcement of some new devices, software and other goodies that we geeks can’t seem to get enough of.  These famous keynote speeches have Apple fanboys (and fanmoms) tuned in online and Tweeting away before, during and after the talk.

Today’s announcements largely centered around upgrades to the iPod lineup, a new social networking component in iTunes and an updated Apple TV.  All in all, the only thing that slightly tempts me is the newly updated iPod Touch.  I’m not coveting it for myself, but rather for my teenage sons who would enjoy many of the functions of the iPhone without me having to pay for a monthly service contract.  I would love for Eric to have the FaceTime feature so that he could dial us up around campus and show us cool things he’s seeing and doing in real time.  The new iPod Touch will also feature the HD video I’ve been enjoying so greatly on my iPhone 4.

My jury is still out on the new “Ping” social network that will be built into iTunes 10.  I don’t really care about social networking around music, but if they extend the functionality to Apps, iBooks and Podcasts, I will greatly enjoy learning what my friends are using and downloading through the iTunes store.

Are you geeky enough to have watched or cared about Steve Jobs’ announcement today?  Do you think you’ll be tempted by any of the products announced today, or are you altogether sick of anything “i”?

Apple made an announcement today?  I am completely oblivious!  LOL!  I enjoy my iPod touch but I really don’t pay attention to this stuff.  I’ll never be considered an early adopter, that’s for sure.

Barb, lucky you for being unaware!  If you’ve been on Twitter today, it was pretty hard to miss!

I have a twitter account, but don’t use it much—like I said, I’m no early adopter!  But then again, I don’t make my living with new media; it’s a “very part-time” thing for me.  In your case, you have to stay aware.

The iPod Touch has me intrigued, if for nothing more than access to the iBook app.  It would allow me to pass my old iPod down to my oldest boy to start with instead of watching him slowly damage a new one.  I live on my iPod though when I’m studying or cleaning, so having a new one now after 5 years of waiting to upgrade would definitely be a good thing.

my husband called after the announcement and said we should each get one for our anniversary coming up in november. we shall see if that happens or not. i’m still pinning for an ipad.

I’m a recent Mac convert.  I should follow Apple on Twitter.  I have the app on my IPod Touch…I received one when we purchased our MacBook Pro.  Working for a school finally paid off!!:)  I’m kinda excited about the IPad, although, I don’t think I’ll be getting one soon.:( I don’t think it’s geeky…Apple’s technology is very cool!

I’m so with you - loooove anything Apple!!  Too bad my budget doesn’t love it as much, LOL!!  Still hoping to upgrade my 3GS to 4, and save up for an iPad, so a new iPod will have to wait.  I am enjoying the new iTunes 10 though, lots of great features!

My husband is an apple geek and filled me in on Steve’s update as soon as he got the chance!  He ought to get commission for all the people he’s converted to be Mac users.  I love my IPad and highly recommend it.  Hubby is looking forward to updating the apple tv…we never have to go rent a movie at Blockbuster again!  Hmm…guess he’s making a “geek” out of me…chances are he’ll make me watch the announcement for myself online soon…
