What's Cooking for Labor Day Weekend?

For many of us, Labor Day Weekend marks the “last hurrah” of summer, one final opportunity to gather with family and friends and relax together before the true hustle and bustle of the school year set in. Many families will sneak in one last road trip or gather for a backyard barbecue together.
We have yet to decide what we’re doing this weekend, which likely means a relaxing weekend spent at home enjoying one another’s company. I have been thinking about making a special meal for Monday, to commemorate the true history behind Labor Day. In doing a little surfing around the web, I ran across this great list of recipe ideas from AllRecipes.com to help you create your menu. Right now, the Minnesota Mail Carrier Cookies are sounding pretty tempting to me!
Labor Day is one of those interesting holidays where you feel as thought you should have something planned since so many other folks seem to do something special over the three day weekend. Perhaps it’s because we’ve already been in the thick of school stuff for two weeks now, but I’m actually really glad that our calendar is largely open this weekend. It will give us a wonderful opportunity to get caught up on a few things, but mostly just to do nothing - which is a rarity around our home these days.
How will you spend the long weekend? Do you have any special traditions or family observations for Labor Day? Care to share a favorite recipe to help me plan my menu for Monday?
