Whither Weather?

how's winter treating you?

On Groundhog’s Day my husband joked that the little guy came out of his hole and declared that winter had already been over for six weeks.

Anyone else feel like the season is missing this year? Here in Michigan, we usually get buried by at least a couple snowstorms each year, and have a week or two of single-digit temperatures. Those things have not happened this winter. We’ve had rain instead, and the average temps seem to be in the mid-30s. This is not a typical Michigan winter.

My husband, who loves weather stuff, says that it has something to do with the jet stream. My feeling: Viva la jet stream! Hey, I don’t travel alone - I’ve got four kids who are all still in car seats. Mild temperatures considerably ease the process of getting out of the house. Winter generally makes me feel cooped up anyway; having a much-shortened cold season helps.

I know some winter-lovers who are still hoping for some big snowstorms before the season ends. I hate for anyone to be disappointed, and I do feel sorry for those in the winter tourism industry, but I’m praying the mild weather holds. I’d be thrilled if this turned out to be the Non-Winter Winter.

What about you? Has it been a mild season where you are? Are you happy about it, or are you hoping snow and cold weather make an appearance before the end of March?

It’s been beautiful here in Boston.  Today is supposed to be in the 40s.  That’s a heat wave!!  I think we’ve only had one small snow storm which only dropped about 2 inches on the ground.  It is an odd winter.  I’m not complaining though… in the past we have been snowed under in April… so winter still has time to run it’s course here.

I second that emotion: “Viva la jet stream!” I am not complaining…I love spring and having that weather during winter is ALWAYS welcomed. I’m in CT and it’s been very mild.

Minneapolis has seen a very mild winter and we’re LOVING it! I despise winter and am thanking God for letting us catch a break this year smile

Very mild here in Buffalo as well. I wouldn’t mind it sticking around either, but I admit I still have this fear in the back of my mind that Easter is going to look more like Christmas (since Christmas looked like Easter).

We want snow wink  We moved last summer to a property we can snowmobile on and get to miles of trails from (that was seriously one of the things we considered).  It’s easier for my dh to get time off in the winter….we don’t go on vacations…we snowmobile.  We are bummed, oh well.  and…there’s nothing for the kids to do outide when it’s kinda cold but no snow :(

We have had an extremely mild winter so far! Usually we get one or two good snowstorms a season that render the city useless! We’ve only gotten two very light dustings. I don’t mind one bit, though. My least favorite season is winter. I’m with you- I’ve only got two kids in car seats, but it is so much easier to deal with when the weather isn’t so bitter cold!

We got 18 inches of snow last Friday if that says anything.
It has been snowing since Oct. and hasn’t slowed down. I have never seen so much snow in my entire 28 years of life. It’s a heat wave when we get to 35 degrees (it’s been getting to be -19 with wind chill) and everything starts to melt, but freezes right away on the cold roads. Did you know that is can still snow even if it’s 0 and below? The Midwestern part of me thought it only snowed when it was 32 degrees, but if lower, just cold. I was so wrong.
My huge van is currently snowed in on one side and since I am 39 weeks pregnant, I am forbidden to dig it out :(
If I let the kiddos out to play in the yard, I must keep an eye out at all times so they don’t get stuck up to their shoulders in the snow. My middle child thinks it’s great that he can just walk over the fence that’s covered with snow to access the front yard.
The moose have come down from the mountains searching for food, which not good for those driving vehicles, trail hikers, and kiddos who think screaming at them is “Loose Calling”.
Can you guess where I live wink
(If you click on my name, I posted photos of our recent snow storm)

I love the warmer weather but….. I worry about drought this summer.  It was nice last year not to hear of water bans and the lack of rain.  So even though I don’t miss the snow I won’t complain if we get a couiple of snow storms at the end of winter….

Wow, y’all are making me appreciate the “cold” 50 degree temp we had this morning in South Louisiana. I can’t imagine living somewhere where it actually is freezing. Down here we say it’s “freezing” when it’s 40 degrees! LOL. It has definitely been a much warmer winter. The last two winters were unusually cold here. We actually had snow last year, which is rare. No snow this year. In fact, last week I had to put my air conditioner on in the house because it was so stuffy. Last week it was in the 70s.

It’s been an incredibly mild winter here in Albany NY, and I’m not complaining (although I would like to have just one occasion for my son to go sledding).  Now I just hope the summer will be equally mild.  I get cranky when it gets above 80, which is why I’m willing to put up with the lousy winters we usually get up here.  I still have an easier time dealing with that than the heat!

@ Mandi- hehe. That’s funny. smile  We’re in western MI over here and last week when it was 50 degrees I went outside without my coat. It was FANTASTIC! That’s suntanning weather over here. wink

I’m loving this weather.  I have a toddler and newborn (Dec) and it was wonderful not slipping and sliding all over ice with ababy in a carseat. That made me nervous last year, getting in and out of stores safely!  All the sunshine and nicer weather I think has helped in keeping the post-partum depression at bay. Bring on the sunshine, thank you, Lord!

We are in Alaska and we usually have mild winters out here on our little island but this year has been brutal with low temps and lots of snow.

Another Alaskan here and it has been a long winter with record breaking amounts of snow, wild temperature swings, etc… I’m very over it and looking forward to summer already!

South Central TX here. Our typical winters are mild by anyone’s standards but this one has been especially so. While the temps have been higher ee have been getting lots and lots of blessed RAIN! We are eeking our way out of the drought and it should be a spectacular wildflower season this spring.
