What is it about a big storm that feels thrilling?
Maybe it’s left over from my days as a Michigan school child, when blizzards meant snow day play.
At any rate, I have to admit I got a little excited when I read that the storm expected to hit Chicago tomorrow morning may be the worst in 70 years.
It’s been dubbed the “Great Lakes Cyclone” and after it sweeps over the western side of Lake Michigan in the morning, it’s expected to hit my area (among others) in the afternoon. Damaging winds are likely, and tornadoes and downed trees and powerlines are possible.
Yikes!
As long as the storm isn’t too severe in my area, I’ll probably enjoy it a little. Thunderstorms can be quite cozy when you’re safely inside with a mug of hot cider.
But I am going to try to keep in mind the reality of the storm, and how it can and probably will cause damage. I’m going to pray for it to be as mild as possible, and that homes and workplaces be spared, especially when damage would be devastating to their owners. Most of all, I’ll pray for the safety those who don’t have proper shelter against the storm. May God protect them.
Well, now I’m feeling sobered. I hope this “top five storm” turns out not to be such a big deal after all!
Whether you’re in the Midwest or not, I’d love it if you’d pray too.
