Would You Wear These Shoes?

time out for a frivolous question!

Is it just me or are more and more shoes designed to make women look like Clydesdales?

Tell me the truth from the fashion perspective (ignore price, comfort, practicality).

Are these attractive?

My great fashion sense says ugly. There’s a lot better.

Don’t know if I’ll be slammed, but I will tell the truth. Yes, I would wear those shoes!!

I like those (don’t know if I’d wear them?  I think they’d be cute on the right person)!
My bigger issue with heels these days is that I’d like some that are feminine and attractive, but don’t look like they belong on grandma or an, ahem, exotic dancer.  Or, like you said, Clydesdales.

nope! i like something simpler. these don’t seem feminine to me - too clunky.

Too boxy. Ugly.

I would not wear them because I do not like the way they look (I think they are very u-g-l-y!).  I actually don’t think they look good on anyone, but that’s just my opinion.

Ick.  To me it looks like a toddler attached the straps.  I like a classic style myself.

Doesn’t appeal to me.

At first glance, I thought those were a pair of those “boots” they give you when you sprain your ankle (you know, over the cast?)  As a regular shoe, I think they look horrendeous (sp?)!!!  Deeply, greatly, truly awful!

I don’t mind clunky, since I am a fan of Birkenstocks & Dansko clogs myself (which make my flat feet very happy).  Personally, I know I’d break my ankle if I even tried to walk across the room in these.  Shoes like this are terrible for the health of women’s feet, legs, & back.  Have you ever seen a woman who can actually walk gracefully in something like this?  Me neither.  I concur with Andrea’s comment that these look like they might be seen on an “exotic dancer”...I personally think they exude kind of a skanky quality.  Not an image I think women need to reinforce, as pop culture is already pretty successful is portraying/promoting that image of women.  The Clydesdale comparison is pretty funny!

besides being way too high, they are plain ugly.  I’ve seen lots of shoes that I see the front/top and pick them up to look at them and they have about a 5in heel.  Not for me and I won’t let my teen daughter wear them either.

I have a pair of boots similar to these.  The platform makes them very comfortable and easy to walk in, much like a Dansko clog. The straps hold the foot in place, making it a surprisingly easy shoe to wear.  I wear them with opague tights with skirts/dresses and under wide leg trouser jeans.  They are my one trendy “go to” piece that can turn an ordinary outfit into something more interesting.  This 45 year old needs to rock out it now and then!

I had platform shoes back in the 70s. They were SO comfortable I wore them out. I would pay good money for a pair now.

They are not my style. Not a fan of the wedge heel or anything much over 1.5 inches due to bad ankles. Love the shoe topic though!

Why yes, Rebecca, those are incredibly attractive door stops!  wink

No, it is not just you!  I think these look like you have a club foot.  Everytime I see women out in public with these horrible shoes, I wonder what aesthetic they have that makes them think, “Oooo, I am definitely going to buy THOSE!” when they are in the shoe store.  I love a small kitten heel, a cute spunky shoe in a cool color, but I don’t get the ugh-ly huge straps.
My teen daughter tells me that she thinks this might be the shoe that the old woman lived in….it even has two stories!

I don’t lie those .... But do love shoes. I wish I had an excuse for a trendy pair now and then.

If the material hadn’t gone down over the sole I would think these are cute. I couldn’t wear them because I have bad ankles and wear no heels but I do think these could look cute with the right outfit.

I haven’t worn heels for 25 years, but it looks like it would support our bad ankles (may be wrong there after reading remarks). I have a high instep so must take that into consideration.

No way! Too ugly! As you said, this is ignoring the comfort factor (which looks like it would be awful!). I also love shoes but think that these are truly hideous! My most recent splurge was a pair of red flats. I’ve had a lot of fun wearing them when I wear a red sweater I was given for Christmas. There’s just something about red shoes!

Um….NO! I think they are so ugly.

No way…I would kill myself!
My 15 year old daughter would!!!

I don’t care for those shoes personally, but high fashion is often ironic.  Instead, I would LOVE to have the new Kate Spade shiny snake print, kitten heel, pointed-toe shoes with matching buckle in all three colors—green, blue and yellow.  All I need to do is win the lottery!  Check them out at this link: http://preview.tinyurl.com/7sworxm

ugly, and I would most likely get injured trying to walk in them

I’ve never really liked the style where the upper material covers the whole heel.  That’s a new thing in shoes and I just find it weird and ugly.  Normally don’t mind a high-heeled sandal though.

I think they are cute, but I admit to heel envy.  I love all types of heels but I could not personally wear them because at 6’ I am already five inches taller than my DH.  smile

I just saw these as at a shoe store (actually at ALL the shoe stores) a few weeks ago while looking for boots for our 14 yo!!  My first thought was centurions or someone from back in history.  ugly, not to mention difficult to manuever.  The colors and types of leather I saw were all far from attractive.
I wondered if they made them out of leftovers.  Whatever happened to nice looking sensible shoes…oh, MaryJanes!!!

I cannot choose what hurts more,,,,wear these or paying for’em, ouch!

These shoes are the equivalent of reviving the corset, wearing these a woman is literally hamstrung from doing anything useful or athletic.

When my husband and I were dating, we used to people watch and when we saw a particularly ugly pair of shoes we’d say, “USA.”  (Ugly Shoe Alert)  These definitely qualify!

Haha…I know a few fashion bloggers out there that would wear those shoes, but I wouldn’t. I tend to like practical flats that I can wear for more than one season. smile And I can’t walk in heels….

Jeanne, does this thread really sound like an argument to you?  That’s so funny!  A little trigger-happy for a fight, maybe?

Let me walk you through this:
Rebecca titled this post, “Would You Wear These Shoes?” with the subtitle, “time out for a frivolous question!”
It was a Saturday morning post.
That means that this is allllllllllll for fun.
Nobody is arguing.
Everybody posted just for the *fun* of it.

God bless you, dear soul!

Absolutely! No heel and plenty of support for my bad ankle. Only the price would be prohibitive.
