Write On!

Share what's in your soul and learn more about writing

Danielle’s post earlier this week about Kateri’s gift of writing has me thinking about the joys of putting pen to paper - or fingers to keyboards - and sharing the thoughts that lie deep within our hearts.

Like Kateri, I’m learning to write.  I’ve been in the process for years now, honing my skills and learning to listen to that inner voice that encourages me to document the little moments that make up my crazy life.  I know many of you out there are just like me - moms and wives who love writing and try to find time on a regular (or even irregular) basis to jot down a thought or two.  I’m still always hesitant to call myself a “writer” - that title seems a bit daunting!  But the truth is, we are all writers!  Those of you who form this community and enhance it so bountifully through the gift of your comments are as much as part of this team as we five bloggers.

For that reason, I wanted to share two writing related topics with you today.  The first is somewhat selfish and a plea for your help.  Some of you know that I’m in the process of writing my very first book, not surprisingly aimed at Catholic Moms!  With Danielle’s consent, I’m going to be posting a few topics here during the weeks ahead that will help me make my work in progress an even more helpful resource for all types of moms.  So be on the lookout for my questions, which will ask you to contribute a few thoughts to particular parenting topics.  I want to thank you in advance for sharing bits of wisdom and insight that will hopefully offer a helping hand to future generations of moms.

Secondly, I want to remind you about a wonderful Catholic writing opportunity.  The second annual Catholic Writers Conference, sponsored by the Catholic Writers Guild, is now accepting registrations.  The event is free of charge and open to writers of all levels.  This year, the conference will offer over 60 presentations, all from the comfort of your own computer, in a virtual environment.  Workshops include writing humor, worldbuilding, characterization, idea generation, writing devotions, writing and canon law, the business of writing, editing your manuscripts, crossing genres, virtual book tours, selling yourself and your works, and more.  You can register now through January 15 at the Catholic Writers Conference website.

Are you a writer, a parent who enjoys writing, or someone like me who’s learning to write?  What prompts you to write?  What topics do you enjoy writing about?  Do you prefer writing on the computer, keeping an old fashioned journal, or are crayons your writing implement of choice?  I’d love to hear more from you about why and how you write!
