Changes and Challenges

Where to begin?

Perhaps we should begin with an explanation of why I am writing this editor’s note instead of Tom and April Hoopes, our beloved Faith & Family editorial co-directors
since 2003.

This past summer, Tom accepted a new position at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kan. — director of strategic communications and writer in residence. Read more about it in Tom and April’s letter on page 6.

The Hoopeses’ departure has left a hole in our hearts ... and in our masthead. Consequently, we’ve shuffled some titles, duties, and assignments here at Faith & Family. I am now editorial director, former assistant editor Robyn Lee is our managing editor, and former copy editor Lynn Wehner is our associate editor.

I thank God every day for blessing me with the opportunity to work with the grace-filled group of talented professionals we have at Faith & Family. And thank goodness for them because changes in staff were not the only challenge we faced this year.

As a non-profit organization, Faith & Family magazine has always been dependent upon donations in order to continue production. This summer, the same kinds of pressures that have recently closed several secular publications caught up with us. We were unable to print and mail the September/October 2009 issue of the magazine on or even close to schedule, so we made the painful decision not to print it at all.

Beginning in 2010, we are going to have to revert back to our every-three-months schedule, sending you four issues next year. When you paid for your subscription, however, you signed on for a certain number of issues and your full subscription will be honored.

Though this change in our printing schedule is a painful one, we believe it is in keeping with our mission to serve modern Catholic families in the most effective way possible. Combining improvements at FaithandFamilyLIVE.com with adjustments that will cut printing costs without sacrificing quality, we will give our readers more value for their subscription payments than ever before.

And one final, grateful note: The printing of this issue of the magazine has been made possible by a generous donation from Pioneer Enterprises.

On behalf of the staff and subscribers of Faith & Family, I want to thank Pioneer Enterprises for their magnanimous support. Without their generosity, you would not be holding this copy of the magazine in your hands.

If you are able to make a donation of any amount to help ensure Faith & Family’s future stability, please contact Mike Lambert at (203) 230-3805 or .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). We thank you for your prayerful consideration.

We are committed to our mission of serving Catholic families. We pray for our readers and subscribers daily. And we ask that you please pray for us, too.
