Faith & Family Books Is Born
Summer 2010 Issue | Posted by Danielle Bean in Editor's Note
Faith & Family has always been about encouraging and supporting Catholic families. As a Catholic mom in need of frequent support and encouragement myself, I can thoroughly appreciate our mission.
In this sizzling summer issue, there is something I can use on every page. Susie Lloyd’s article about planning (and surviving!) a family reunion (page 35) is equal parts inspiring and reassuring. Celeste Behe’s interview with the modest yet stylish actress Jessica Rey (page 59) arrived in my inbox just as I was contemplating this year’s spring and summer clothing styles, which I’ll be navigating with my growing daughters. Melinda Selmys’ thoughtful piece on how Catholics should approach the issue of homosexuality in their communities and even their families (page 63) sensitively handles this emotional and divisive topic that has been making headlines.
But this summer issue sizzles in more practical ways, too. Popular priest-chef Fr. Leo Patalinghug shares some of his favorite recipes with writer Amy Smith (page 66), I share some ways to win the battle of clean in “Chore Wars” (page 38), and Tammy Darling offers parenting pointers in “No Fair!” (page 31).
Because Faith & Family is passionate about supporting Catholic families in big and small ways, I am thrilled to announce that our “sister apostolate” and book publisher, Circle Press, is now joining us in that mission.
With the publication of my most recent book, Small Steps for Catholic Moms: Think. Pray. Act. Every Day, Circle Press is launching its Faith & Family imprint, a line of books that focuses specifically on the needs and interests of Catholic families.
Small Steps for Catholic Moms, which I co-authored with my friend and sister of the heart Elizabeth Foss, is a mother’s devotional in which we offer a thought-provoking quote from a saint, a prayer to focus the day, and a simple action you can take daily. Each month focuses on a different virtue and suggests “small steps” Catholic moms can take to nurture that virtue and grow closer to Christ every day of the year.
I am pleased with the way this simple book turned out because in many ways it reflects the heart and soul of what we strive to accomplish with every issue of our magazine. We know that Catholic family life is fraught with unique challenges and joys, and we want to encourage and inspire you in all the little things that make up your days as a Catholic mom.
The new Faith & Family line of books from Circle Press is just one more way we are doing our best to support you in Catholic living. We want to be there for you. Along every step of the way.
Circle Press general manager Claudia Volkman and I are thrilled to get our hands on a fresh copy of Small Steps for Catholic Moms (CirclePress.org ).
