Faith & Family Live!
September/October 2008 Issue | Posted by Tom and April Hoopes in Editor's Note
April: With this issue, Tom and I are celebrating our fifth anniversary. Not our wedding anniversary (that has been more than 15 years!), but our Faith & Family anniversary. It was five years ago that we became the editorial co-directors of the magazine.
To celebrate the current team’s fifth anniversary, we’re giving our readers a gift — a daily multi-blogger website: FaithandFamilyLIVE.com.
Tom: When we celebrated the National Catholic Register’s 80th anniversary, we did it by launching a new website, too. The idea is to celebrate anniversaries in such a way that they catapult you forward instead of planting you in a backward glance. We are proud of what the magazine has accomplished. But we want to do more.
April: Giving credit where it’s due, the blog is the brainchild of Danielle Bean — and it exists because of her hard work. She has gathered an impressive group of Catholic mom bloggers who have diverse backgrounds and a record of success in this new genre. If you, like me, are a fan of DanielleBean.com, I’m sure you’ll love what she has done. Not only does the site provide all of Faith & Family’s articles in searchable formats (that part is for subscribers only), it gives you a daily dose of wisdom and beauty.
Tom: And a daily dose of excitement. That’s what April had in mind when she came up with its name. FaithandFamilyLIVE.com was supposed to evoke a little bit of Regis and Kelly — only we have five Kellys and no Regis. It’s a moms’ blog after all.
April: The blog performs a valuable service for moms like you and me. We love the Church, we love our families, and we love our vocations. But we need a little help.
We live in a culture that is often at odds with the faith. We grew up in homes that might not have had a lot of Catholic culture. We never dreamed motherhood would be this fulfilling … or this difficult.
It’s wonderful to go and be refreshed at FaithandFamilyLIVE.com and remind ourselves of priorities we may have forgotten — like slowing down — and be encouraged and inspired by so many women who share our struggles and joys.
Meanwhile, the magazine will be using our website a lot more in the future to give you added resources and bonus materials that we simply can’t fit in our pages.
See you at FaithandFamilyLIVE.com. Look for my comments there. I’ll be looking for yours!
