Race for the Cure Drops Planned Parenthood—Updated

Note: see bottom of this post for an update
The Susan G. Komen foundation is cutting ties with Planned Parenthood—at least for now.
The severance has not been announced publicly, and officially at least is not a repudiation of Planned Parenthood.
Komen spokeswoman Leslie Aun said the cutoff results from the charity’s newly adopted criteria barring grants to organizations that are under investigation... READ MORE
Some Go To Sing & Shout

It may have been rainy and cold at the March for Life yesterday, but there was such warmth and fire in the crowd.
Part of that fire was stoked by Msgr. Charles Pope’s homily for the huge Youth Rally the Archdiocese of Washington put on prior to the March.
It’s worth listening to at the link: Msgr. Pope’s an engaging preacher, and his bare-bones text doesn’t convey the spirit of the thing at all.... READ MORE
Difficult Discussion

This weekend for the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, our parish is having its usual prayer vigil. We signed up for a half-hour time slot. Bryan’s going and I suggested he might take our five-year-old daughter with him.
But I wasn’t surprised when he hesitated. Because, you see, we haven’t explained to Camilla about abortion yet.
We did participate in the local pregnancy care center’s fill-a-bottle-with-coins... READ MORE
Not Helping!

I doubt this audience needs any persuading that women can do better than abortion, but here is some grim evidence anyway.
This is the advice Fund Abortion Now is giving women about how to pay for their abortions.
Some of it is sensible economizing.
Some of it is desperate measures anyone truly poor might take to cover an unexpected expense (pawning goods, volunteering for medical experiments).
But... READ MORE

Today I went to the grocery store to buy some comfort food for a rainy afternoon (Cheez-its and Reese’s pieces if anyone was wondering).
Happy with my purchase I walked out the door and was greeted by young professionals who asked if I was a resident of the town. When I said yes, I was introduced to the local politician who was running for Town Council.
Now let me first say that I am not into politics,... READ MORE
The Disturbing Truth

This video makes a powerful impact, particularly alongside the disturbing Margaret Sanger quote I saw it published with at Bad Catholic this past weekend.

At the height of Operation Rescue’s clinic-blocking efforts during the Clinton administration, journalist Cynthia Gorney published a fine pair of articles in City Paper profiling pro-life activists and abortion clinic-workers, respectively.
They were very fair-minded pieces and formed the seed of a book she later wrote on the topic of the abortion wars.
Her piece on the atmosphere inside abortion... READ MORE
A "Risk-Free Place to Fight Abortion"?
Posted by Lynn Wehner in Faith on Tuesday, March 15, 2011
Fr. Frank Pavone has a powerful post at LifeSite News this week. And, not surprisingly, he offers us a challenge. Hey, a challenge. Just in time for Lent.
The hard truth is that children in the womb are at risk of losing their lives. Every. Day. Why do we think we shouldn’t have to risk something to save them? Are we too cautious in this battle — or are we truly “willing to suffer the consequences... READ MORE
Planned Parenthood Bunnies

Wow. If you’ve seen that too-dumb-for-words “We Won’t Go Back” pro-abortion ad MoveOn.org released a few weeks ago, you will be gratified to learn that those who oppose government funding of Planned Parenthood are fighting back with their own hard-hitting ads. There are no graphic images in this one, but it’s alarming nonetheless. In all the right ways.
President Buchanan Celebrates Dred Scott Anniversary

President Obama released a short statement on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade.
What other fundamental “rights” must be protected yet discouraged? Suppose the President or other Roe defenders had said:
I recommit myself to protecting the free exercise of religion, but will support initiatives to discourage faith.
I recommit myself to protecting freedom of speech, but will work to discourage people from having opinions or uttering them.... READ MORE
