Finding Pokemon on a Cake
Posted by Danielle Bean in Family on Sunday, April 05, 2009
We moms know little kids’ birthday cake angst. And Amy Welborn knows it in a special way this year.
It was also a reminder of how the simplest things we do for each other might have an impact far beyond the obvious. Who knows what huge bridge someone is trying to cross when they need something small from us? Who knows what a difference our outstretched hands make in someone’s longer journey, which probably holds difficulties far beyond what they let on.
A touching story and an important reminder for all of us. Go read the whole thing.
Heart-Felt Note of Thanks

(Amy Welborn Dubruiel sent along this note this morning with the request that I post it for all of you here at Faith & Family Live.)
Almost two months ago, my husband, Michael Dubruiel, died suddenly and totally unexpectedly at the age of 50.
Since that day, I have been overwhelmed by many new realities, emotions and spiritual tides. Some of it has been confusing, some negative and some of it has... READ MORE
How Can We Help Children Grieve?
Posted by Danielle Bean in Family on Friday, March 13, 2009
Amy Welborn, who lost her husband Michael Dubruiel to a heart attack last month, has a heart-wrenching post at Via Media today about how her sons have been handling the loss of their father.
When Amy sent me the link this afternoon, she specifically requested that I post it here and ask for input from Faith & Family readers. She is unsure how best to handle her children’s grief and would be grateful for any suggestions you can offer or experiences you can share. Like me, she has confidence in the goodness and wisdom of the people who read here.
Please go read her post and, if you can, leave some comments on this difficult and yet very important topic.
Amy Welborn’s New Gig
Posted by Danielle Bean in News on Tuesday, March 03, 2009
Exciting news! Amy Welborn has recently announced the launch of her new blog at BeliefNet: Via Media. She explains:
“This blog will hearken back to the Open Book days. I will be blogging frequently and on a wider variety of topics than I did at Charlotte. But even then - please don’t take a lack of blog posts on any particular topic as a sign of disinterest or avoidance. I blog on topics about which I have some understanding and on which I have an interest in reading comments. I also refrain from blogging on topics about which every other blogger on the known Internet is feverishly posting, unless I have a spectacularly unique insight. Hah.”
With the recent loss of her husband, this move is sure to be a stress for Amy, but I just know that we will all be blessed by her return to more frequent blogging. Please go check out her introductory post and be sure to leave her an encouraging comment.
Amy Welborn Collection Ends
Posted by Danielle Bean in News on Monday, February 09, 2009
I have stopped taking donations via PayPal for the Michael Dubruiel Memorial fund. In all, we’ve collected $8,520, which I will now be sending to Michael’s wife Amy Welborn and their two sons, Joseph age 7 and Michael age 4.
The fact that so many responded so generously to the call for donations is a real tribute to Michael’s life and his contributions to the Church. Thank you so much for your generosity!

Thank you to everyone who has so generously donated to the collection for Amy Welborn and her family. As of this morning, we have collected a little more than $6,000. I will continue to collect through the weekend and then all funds will be sent to Amy.
Also of note, Our Sunday Visitor has announced that they will be “contributing to Mike’s children’s college fund by doubling what would have been Mike’s proceeds from book sales on all of his OSV books through the month of February.” So keep buying those books!
Thank you so much for your generosity.

Collection for Amy Welborn

COLLECTION ENDED. PAYPAL BUTTON REMOVED.
The Catholic blogosphere has been deeply saddened by the loss of Amy Welborn‘s husband, Catholic author and blogger Michael Dubruiel.
I have heard from so many of you expressing a deep desire to help the family in some tangible way during their time of loss. I’ve set up a Paypal button to collect donations that will be sent to Amy, to help cover the costs of Michael’s funeral and any other expenses she might be encountering at this time.
You do not need a Paypal account to donate via Paypal. For those who would prefer to mail a check, I am looking into getting a publishable mailing address for donations by personal check and will update with that information when I have it.
This couple has given so much to the Church through their work. Please consider helping in whatever way you can.
(Amy has also mentioned that royalties from the sale of Michael’s The How-To Book of the Mass will go directly to the children’s college fund)
Michael Dubruiel, RIP

Please pray for the repose of the soul of Catholic author and blogger Michael Dubruiel. Michael was the husband of Amy Welborn. Please pray for Michael, for Amy, and for their children.
Comments are off at Amy’s blog, but Fr. Z. is gathering comments and prayers at his site.
