The Weird and the Wild

When my oldest son was visiting at Easter, he and one of my daughters shared some fond memories of a pet ferret we once had (whose untimely demise I did not mourn), and unbeknownst to me, offered to pay for another one should said daughter ever wish for it.
I’m not entirely sure how this happened — the kids must have drugged me — but within a week there was not one but two ferrets in our home.

Dog Days
Posted by Lynn Wehner in Family on Wednesday, December 22, 2010
My brother’s family just got a dog.
We met her this weekend, and she’s absolutely adorable — a Gordon Setter with the sweetest face around. So soft, so playful. But now the pressure’s on again with my crew. Big fat hens are hilariously cute. Rowdy roosters are pretty to look at and predictably noisy (and dumb—Really, Rex? 3:00 am is time to start... READ MORE
Off to a Good Start

I had to smile this morning when I saw this chart where the Gabby and her younger brothers are tallying their catches for the day.
So far, just one salamander ... but the day is still young and, as you can see, their goals are lofty.
These early days of spring are a temptation to me every year. It’s hard to stay focused on school work and indoor chores when a fresh, warm world beckons from every window... READ MORE
