Black Forest Birthday Cake

awesomely easy

Though Stephen’s birthday was a few days ago, we had our family party today.

Last week, Stephen had a small pre-celebration of his birthday at my mother’s house. There, she treated him to a Black Forest Cake.

It was a hit.

Though for months he has been planning to have a chocolate-vanilla marble cake for birthday party, yesterday he told me he changed his mind. Instead, he wanted some more of that... READ MORE

Chocolate Zucchini Bread

more summer baking

Do you have zucchini? You must have zucchini. Even if you don’t grow your own, chances are you know someone who is looking to unload a squash or two this time of year.

This bread we baked yesterday was a yummy treat. It’s a very easy recipe that’s perfect for pint-sized bakers. In fact, 6-year-old Stephen handled it pretty well by himself, with only minimal supervision.

But now for the important information—Just... READ MORE

Sweet Success!

We did get around to baking this afternoon, as I had planned. Though I still have wet bed linens sitting in the washer and only a vague plan for dinner, Juliette’s smile tells me it was time well spent.

Pictured here are these muffins, but we used blackberries instead of blue. And we doubled the recipe, of course.

Yum!

Are We Having Fun Yet?

Don't let it slip away ... seize the summer!

It’s August and the end of summer is on the horizon. Here, we won’t go “back to school” until the second week of September, but I know many of you start earlier than that.

There’s no time like the present for squeezing a bit more fun from summertime with your family. What have you planned to do this summer but haven’t gotten around to yet? A day trip to the water park? Berry picking? A trip to the... READ MORE

Blueberry Bounty

It's a delicious time of year!

Do you have blueberries? Do you have LOTS of blueberries? I haven’t yet brought my gang to pick them, but we are planning a trip next week. It usually takes us only a few minutes to pick enough to fill the freezer for many months.

Blueberries freeze easily and there’s really nothing better than a taste of summer from your freezer when the weather gets cold. To freeze, place fresh blueberries in a... READ MORE
