We all know that Arwen, super-blogger, mom of four, and new mom of adorable twins, totally rocks, don’t we? Well, perhaps some of you will be surprised to find out just how rockin’ this rockin’ mom is ...

Check it out: Please join me in wishing Arwen a rockin’ birthday!

When the Youngest "Grows Up"

My baby sister turned 40 yesterday. Many blessings to you in this birthday week, Lisa!

She’s the youngest and I’m the oldest of our siblings. Her hitting this milestone is — well, it’s just plain weird. I don’t know who feels older — her, me, or our dad. There’s probably going to be a whole lotta denial going on for a little while.

I remember how adorable she was when she was a baby. I remember when... READ MORE

For Arwen, On Her Special Day

Because today is your special day, Arwen, and because no one sings it quite like New Kids On The Block, this is for you. Groove along with me now ...

We love you, Arwen! Hope your day is filled with sweetness and special blessings!

I made this!

which means you can too

Our youngest boy turned three last week and as he is going through a phase of intense watermelon-loving, when he saw this cake (on the cover of Woman’s Day!) he asked if he could have that for his birthday. I flipped through the magazine, studied the recipe and decided I could probably come up with something in the remote vacinity of perhaps looking like this. Maybe?

And voila! It worked! My sister... READ MORE

Happy Birthday, Pope Benedict

Let's pause to pray for our pontiff today

Today marks Pope Benedict XVI’s 83rd birthday.

This year, I think he needs our prayers more than ever. If you aren’t already praying it, perhaps today would be a good day to begin the Novena for the Pope suggested by the Knights of Columbus.

You can also send him an email. No, really! Here’s his address: benedictxvi@vatican.va

Prayer for the Pope

Father, we pray for your protection and guidance over... READ MORE

Sunshine in a Cake

more fun with frosting

Over the weekend, we had a very special young lady in the house turn 15, and this happy-looking cake was part of the celebration.

Yes, those are Twinkies.

No, I don’t usually “bake” with Twinkies.

But Kateri has had her eye on this cake ever since she spotted the recipe in one of my Taste of Home cookbooks a while back.

It really was easy and fun to put together. I made this one on a bit of a smaller... READ MORE

Celebrating One!

At the end of Blaise's first year

At 5:26am a year ago today, our little boy was born.

In celebration of his birthday, we had a casual family party this weekend. In honor of being an entire year old, the baby got his very first piece of cake all to himself.

At Camilla’s one-year party, she didn’t quite get the hang of the cake, instead choosing to smear frosting in her hair. Blaise, on the other hand, caught on right away, and was... READ MORE

Matching Boys

On this day in history...

Here is a little known fact: Danielle and I each gave birth to a son on September 4, 1998. We both have wonderful boys turning 11 years old today.

Happy Birthday Ambrose, and Happy Birthday Elliott! May Jesus bless you richly this day and for years to come.

(If you gave birth eleven years ago today, you can be in the club too!)
