Hold Fast to God

Lenten Reflections

Thursday, February 23

“I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. Choose life, then, that you and your descendants may live, by loving the LORD, your God, heeding his voice, and holding fast to him.”  Deut 30:19-20

Notice that love is the first response when “choosing life.” The first concrete action. First to love, then to obey. Love must be the impetus, and everything must... READ MORE

Blessing for Moms

Happy Mother's Day!

Hope your day is filled with your favorite things!

Let’s all join in prayers of thanksgiving for the gift of our mothers and our motherhood today:
Father in heaven,
grant me the grace to appreciate the dignity which you conferred on me.
Let me realize that not even the angels have been blessed with such a privilege —to share in your creative miracle and bring new saints to heaven.
Make me a good mother to my children after the example of Mary,
the mother of your Son.
Through the intercession of Jesus and Mary,
I ask your continued blessings on my family.
Let us all be dedicated to your service on earth and attain the eternal happiness of your kingdom in heaven.
Amen.

Duly Noted

sharing love and joy

A friend of mine is making an interesting Lenten commitment this year—she’s sending handwritten notes to family and friends (and perhaps a few others as well) during the 40 days of Lent.

What a nice idea!

I realize jotting down a few thoughts on a piece of paper might not be the same sacrificial level of a major fast or increased time in Adoration, but it really is an act of love that can draw others... READ MORE

1st Sunday of Advent

add an Advent blessing to your family's prayer time

Blessing: O God, by whose word all things are sanctified, pour forth thy blessing upon this wreath, and grant that we who use it may prepare our hearts for the coming of Christ and may receive from Thee abundant graces. Through Christ our Lord, Amen.

1st Sunday Prayer: O Lord, stir up Thy might, we beg Thee, and come that by Thy protection we may deserve to be rescued from the threatening dangers of our sins and saved by Thy deliverance. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

More Advent background, blessings, and prayers.

On the Feast of Francis

When Fr. Matt announced at the end of Mass yesterday morning that, in honor of the Feast of St. Francis, there would be a blessing of the pets at noon, we Beans did some quick calculations in our heads.

Living 30 minutes from our church, it would require a bit of rushing, but we decided that yes, we could do it.

We could, in fact, hurry home, pick up the dog, grab a couple of our favorite chickens... READ MORE

Blessings for Mom

a Mother's Day prayer

If you’d like to use the comments to give your mom a shout-out today ... please do!

On My Heart Today

a beautiful song of worship

Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing, one of my favorite hymns, performed by the same artist who sang on the Babies movie trailer. Just beautiful.

Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
prone to leave the God I love;
here’s my heart, O take and seal it,
seal it for thy courts above.

A Thanksgiving Day Blessing

Father in Heaven, Creator of all and source of all goodness and love, please look kindly upon us and receive our heartfelt gratitude in this time of giving thanks.

Thank you for all the graces and blessings You have betowed upon us, spiritual and temporal: our faith and religious heritage, our food and shelter, our health, the love we have for one another, our family and friends.

Dear Father, in Your infinite generosity, please grant us continued graces and blessing throughout the coming year.

This we ask in the Name of Jesus, Your Son. Amen.
