The Hail Mary—A Closer Look
Posted by Lisa Hendey in Faith on Thursday, May 03, 2012
Over at her wonderful blog, our good friend Sarah Reinhard is engaged in a fascinating project: a word by word look at the Hail Mary.
Sarah’s invitation to her fellow bloggers to examine her favorite prayer was inspired by Jennifer Fulwiler’s original treatment of the Our Father at her blog, Conversion Diary. And if you know Sarah, you know this exercise is a perfect fit for our friend who so dearly... READ MORE

Who Cares for Caregivers?
Posted by Danielle Bean in Family on Monday, June 20, 2011
A reader writes:
“I am writing you to ask about any Catholic bloggers out there who address caregiving of others. My mother is the sole caretaker of my father who is in the moderate/severe stage of Alzheimers where he can still speak, but he cannot
finish a sentence on the phone. He does not remember and he has whole libraries of books that he has forgotten.
My mother is a devout Catholic and would... READ MORE
People Are Nicer Than You Think
Posted by Danielle Bean in Just me on Wednesday, December 01, 2010
I had the enlightening experience once of having a surprise “in-real-life” social meeting with someone (I will call her Jane) whom I had previously known only online.
Before our in-real-life meeting, I did not like Jane. Actually, I might very well have liked her, except for the fact that Jane did not like me. At least I thought she didn’t.
You know how you can get a bad “vibe” sometimes from reading... READ MORE
Little Picture, Big Heart
Posted by Arwen Mosher in Family on Friday, October 29, 2010
For years my father has had a framed watercolor of a heart on his dresser. My younger sister was making it for him, but smudged it. Disappointed, she threw it away, but he rescued it and framed it.
I always like seeing the heart, which feels to me like a metaphor for the way Dad loves his children despite and through our weaknesses.
My father is a wise man, and he too draws a metaphor from the heart picture. He published the piece on his blog, and I found it both moving and true. You can read it here: “The Broken Heart”.
You Can't Judge a Mom By Her Purse

I usually don’t respond. I usually take the advice that I offer sensitive fellow bloggers all the time, and choose instead to be “above it all.”
But this time I feel compelled to respond to a combox conversation. Because I think the interaction in this particular circumstance demonstrates something much larger and more important than my own precious feelings or the nastiness of petty comments.
Because... READ MORE
Writing My Own Story
Posted by Arwen Mosher in Faith on Tuesday, October 19, 2010
I have several friends who like blogs, but don’t read ones written by other Catholic mothers.
“I can’t take the pressure,” they say. “Their lives look so perfect, and it makes me feel badly that mine’s not like that.”
Personally, I do read - and am inspired by - blogs by other Catholic moms. But I understand my friends’ point of view. It can be intimidating.
I’ve been part of the Internet community... READ MORE

Stations of the Cross for Kids
Posted by Arwen Mosher in Faith on Friday, February 19, 2010
The Stations of the Cross are a lovely devotion, and they’re especially appropriate on Fridays in Lent. Many parishes celebrate them on Friday evenings during the season of penance, but it can be difficult to attend with children. Repeatedly standing and kneeling while corralling children and keeping them from disturbing others is enough of a challenge. Trying also to concentrate on the prayers becomes... READ MORE
Vocation Boom!
Posted by Lisa Hendey in Faith on Tuesday, November 03, 2009
You may have heard of the cool new website Vocation Boom!—created by Jerry Usher and his team—which officially launched in mid September. Since its debut, the site has been making great use of the New Media to reach out to and support young men who may have an interest in the priesthood.
The site is chock full of tremendous vocation resources, including videos like the one I’m sharing here today. ... READ MORE
