Hi! I’m Rachel Balducci. I am married to Paul and we are the parents of five lively boys. I am so excited to be a part of the team here at Faith & Family Live! where I will be sharing my musings on Catholic living, fashion favorites, and lots about life with boys. Besides being a mom, I am also a writer and a newspaper columnist for the Diocese of Savannah here in Georgia. I have maintained my personal... READ MORE
What’s Going On Here?

What could it be that has my boys so engrossed on a summer afternoon? What has so captivated their attention that I have not seen their darling faces indoors for the better part of the day?
I was certain they were reading Shakespeare. You know, my sweet little cherubs love to gather outdoors on temperate days for an impromptu reading of Hamlet.
Just kidding. They prefer the sonnets.
Okay, maybe... READ MORE

Today is baby Henry’s first birthday. Hooray, Henry!
Tonight we are celebrating with a cookout at the pool we frequent, and as part of our preparations this morning I loaded up the boys to go pick out a gift and a few more items for the party. As Henry is our fifth son, I had a very hard time figuring out what present to get him. Everything we considered, I could basically fast-forward several months... READ MORE
Brotherly Love
Posted by Rachel Balducci in Family on Monday, July 21, 2008
Around here, love doesn’t always look the way I’d like it to look. Boys sometimes have a funny way of showing they care.
Of course my boys can be very sweet with me—they are always quick to give me a kiss (on the lips even!), to tell me they love me. I get fresh-picked flowers (from the neighbors yard) and if I’m feeling sad, at least one of the boys will ask if I’m okay.
Boys can certainly be... READ MORE
Brain Food

We’ve had more than our fair share of rain here in New Hampshire over the past several days. We Beans have been more fortunate than some, though. Yesterday’s wild storms and floods left many people with damaged homes and personal injuries. We’ve only gotten a thorough soaking.
With weather keeping us all indoors, though, our boys have been going a little stir crazy. A trip to the library where we... READ MORE

I assigned the job of scrubbing out the family cooler to one of my big boys yesterday and he got it done in what seemed like record time.
Me: Are you sure it’s all clean?
Him: Yup!
Me: Would you eat food that came out of it?
Him: Sure!
Which, of course, tells me nothing about the cleanliness of the cooler.

With the first edition of Says You (About Bullies) --and Danielle’s follow-up-- under our belts, I want to push the discussion of how we train our kids to react to danger a little bit further.
I think the movie Titanic is one of the most pernicious films ever made (bear with me, I’m building to a point). One of the pastors at our parish dubbed it “Sex On A Boat” and suggested when the Leo DiCaprio... READ MORE
Keeping Busy

I apologize to those of you who are suffering droughts this summer, but I do need to whine for just a minute about the rain. It’s been raining non-stop this summer. NON-STOP.
I heard on the news last night that we need only 4 more inches of rainfall in August for this summer to break the record for the New Hampshire’s All Time Wettest Summer Ever. I am so excited.
The kids have been very good... READ MORE
The Grocery Store Can Be Fun
Posted by Rachel Balducci in Family on Thursday, August 21, 2008
When my four oldest boys were little, we ate our way through the grocery store. Not necessarily the entire store, but usually from the half-way point on.
In those days, an outing to the grocery store was an all-day affair. The boys and I would usually arrive in the late morning, eat a light lunch in the dining area and then hit the aisles. We would wind our way up and down, row after row, the boys... READ MORE
Popcorn!
Posted by Rachel Balducci in Reviews on Monday, August 25, 2008
A few months ago, I noticed two things – one, that microwavable popcorn was always on my grocery list, and two, that microwavable popcorn isn’t cheap.
So I started doing a little research and decided we’d start popping corn on our own. I was so pleased to buy the five-dollar bag of kernels that I was confident I’d left the world of nuked popcorn behind. We would now have unlimited bowls of popcorn,... READ MORE
