Feed The Hungry

Summertime is upon us and for me, that means five hungry boys will commence to eating us out of house and home. Every day.
It’s already started and I am amazed. One teenage son has recently started an afternoon workout regime that leaves him STAR-VEENG. As in, he was so hungry when he came home from school yesterday that he immediately ate one (or two!) boiled eggs, a frozen pizza, and some form of... READ MORE
Boys and Bathrooms

Mothering boys makes you an expert on all kinds of things, stuff you never imagined you would know or learn or even care to master. Random information including chief protagonists in all the Star Wars films, best way to make a Pinewood Derby car and the dollar menu at every fast food joint in town.
Some of this information is actually pretty useful and today I’m going to share how to keep your bathroom... READ MORE
Making a List

While I’m sure there are those who have finished their Christmas shopping (go you! You’re awesome), I am not one of those people.
I thought it might be nice for the mere mortals among us to share ideas on toys that stand the test of time, in case we’ve got some more shopping to do.
Today: toys for boys!
Here’s my list of a few items that are worth buying, things that last and get used and enjoyed... READ MORE
You are a Superhero!

How’s this for something that will make your son swoon? A superhero apron—for you!
I think if I got one of these, well my boys wouldn’t quite know what to think. Perhaps it would be just as they’ve suspected all along—I’m a superhero too, just like them!
Here are further directions, for the crafty among us.
(HT: my friend Holly who is super crafty and will probably actually make one. Will you?)

Yesterday I described and shared a picture of the lovely silk and pashmina wool shawls my son sent us from Afghanistan. Then there’s the very heavy box that arrived for the male members of the family. Its contents are pictured here.
Although I am not the type of mother who freaks out at the sight of weapons, or the thought of her boys handling them, I did find the sheer quantity a little off-putting.... READ MORE
Handsome in Pink

A few weeks ago I was clicking around on-line and came across a clothes website that caught my eye.
I really like the website, but what stopped me in my tracks was an article, prominently displayed, written by the company’s designer. The accompanying picture featured the woman happily painting her son’s toenails pink.
That seemed really strange.
I thought about this for a few minutes and I think... READ MORE
Truck Overload

How Do You Tuck In a Superhero? is a perfect name, but it’s already taken.
So if I ever write a memoir about raising boys, it’ll be called Where Did All These Trucks Come From?
We had toy trucks when Camilla was little. One of my favorite childhood playthings had been a small tractor, and I didn’t want to deprive her of the chance to fall in love with something similar. She’d occasionally take time... READ MORE
Baby Talk

Two thoughts: one, this video is sure to make Arwen smile. And two: somedays, I think this is what I sound like to my boys. (in the words of the Talking Heads: you’re talking a lot, but you’re not saying anything.) But these babies, they are saying something!

Two Good

Blaise had a birthday today!
Back in the fall of 2008, I blogged about Camilla’s second birthday. Blaise was born about three months later, and now he’s two himself. Wow.
I don’t have the same introspective thoughts on the blessing of parenthood to share today, but I think that’s okay. With two kids, and especially with one of them being a very busy toddler, I have less time for introspection now.... READ MORE
