Grate Butter

Last month I made the Cook’s Illustrated recipe for blueberry scones (which I highly recommend - you can find it here) and I was surprised. Instead of having you cut the butter into the dry ingredients like most scone recipes, this one has you freeze the butter, grate it, then stick in back in the freezer before stirring it in with the flour and stuff.

Special Crispy Treats

I know they’re not everyone’s thing, but I love rice crispy treats. Yes, they’re basically just cereal-studded pieces of chewy sugar, but they are *delicious* cereal-studded balls of chewy sugar. Also, as long as you work fast and you’re not picky about letting them cool completely, you can be eating them less than fifteen minutes after you decide to make them.

Ending Autumn Tastily

While Rachel’s been sadly taking down her autumn decorations, I’ve been dealing with the edible remains of the fall season. This weekend I made stock out of our turkey carcass, and being kitchen-frugal like that always inspires me to do more.
