We moms know little kids’ birthday cake angst. And Amy Welborn knows it in a special way this year.
It was also a reminder of how the simplest things we do for each other might have an impact far beyond the obvious. Who knows what huge bridge someone is trying to cross when they need something small from us? Who knows what a difference our outstretched hands make in someone’s longer journey, which probably holds difficulties far beyond what they let on.

Here’s a helpful guide to the traditional observances of “Fat Tuesday.”
While I wouldn’t be caught dead in New Orleans this time of year, I appreciate the spirit behind the idea of “feasting” before a fast.

It sounded too good to be true.
Chocolate cake in 5 minutes? When I saw the recipe around the internet, it intrigued me.
Then, when Michelle emailed me the recipe, I knew it was meant to be.

Black Forest Birthday Cake

Though Stephen’s birthday was a few days ago, we had our family party today.
