Mom My Ride

Is this your car?

This video has been floating around for a little while, but it’s so perennially true that I just had to share it with you. Please pardon the “product placement” at the beginning and have fun with the theme of the video… how “mommed out” our cars can be! A few questions for you - does your car scream “mom”? Could you feed a family of four with the old fries stuck under your minivan seats? Or have you “graduated” from the SUV to a more economical model? Enjoy!

Mobile Evangelization

Do you wear your faith on your car?

This Harley caught my eye at the gym today. One of my little secrets is that some day I’d love to own one of these—“she” would be red, and not quite as bulky as this one. My husband the ER doctor is obviously opposed to the idea for a variety of practical reasons.

But the reason this particular model caught my eye was not the color, but rather that large “Jesus Is Lord” banner across the windshield,... READ MORE

Is Your Car Safe?

Rethinking assumptions about our autos

As I work today, Aiko Toyoda, President of Toyota, is testifying before Congress, rightly answering for lapses in safety and possibly even cover ups within Toyota.  The recall has been sweeping, and also surprising to many of us who assumed that our Toyotas were not only efficient and resilient, but also very safe.

To view the entire list of recalled vehicle models, click here.  Regardless of whether... READ MORE

What's Hot

(in our world anyway)

While the rest of the free world watches the State of the Union and discusses the awesomeness of the new Apple iPad (no arm wrestling for that thing, Lisa and Danielle!), we are in the throes of Pinewood Derby!

Do you have a Derby coming up? If so, I wish you the best.

We spent the afternoon doing (another) coat of paint, some sanding, and more painting after that. Tomorrow we will sand axels and... READ MORE

Can You Beat That?

How old is your stuff?

The “delete” key on my computer has gone wonky.  It still works most of the time, but occasionally I’ll hit it and have no luck.  Good thing I know the key command for “cut” so I can still erase unwanted text!

But dealing with this new hiccup in my computer, which has otherwise worked hitch-free as long as I’ve had it, reminds me that it’s nearing time for me to get a new computer.  Since I need mine... READ MORE

Matchbox Mania

Pick a vehicle, any vehicle. We own it and we love it.

Daniel loves his toy vehicles. Mini matchbox cars, medium monster trucks, and oversize dump trucks. He loves them all.

And he loves organizing them too. He will spend hour after painstaking hour lining up his cars and trucks just-so on our wooden floors. He worries and waves his arms if anyone steps too close to his carefully constructed line of traffic.

I wondered how carefully he was keeping track... READ MORE

Good Day

The other day, I brought along Raphael and Gabby when I went out to run a few errands.

When I had to wait in line at the gas station for a solid 20 minutes for the privilege of paying almost $4.00 per gallon, I was annoyed.

When my pint-sized companions fought over whose turn it was to sit in the front of the grocery cart, I was bothered.

When I loaded the groceries into the van, buckled the kids... READ MORE
