Have a Great Party Idea to Share?

We want to hear from you!

Have you hosted a great themed party recently?

We have a feature in Faith & Family magazine called Party Planners where we showcase a real party (usually a child’s birthday, but other themed parties work as well) put on by a real Catholic family. We like to have a few photos as well as a bit of information about the party’s theme. If you have a party that you think might qualify and would like us to consider using it in the magazine, please email me!

Blessings for Our Fathers

Happy Father's Day to My Dad and Every Dad!

Blessings today to to every man who labors and loves, protects and provides:

Prayer for Fathers

St. Joseph, guardian of Jesus and chaste husband of Mary, you passed your life in loving fulfillment of duty. You supported the holy family of Nazareth with the work of your hands. Kindly protect those who trustingly come to you. You know their aspirations, their hardships, their hopes. They look to you because they know you will understand and protect them. You too knew trial, labor and weariness. But amid the worries of material life your soul was full of deep peace and sang out in true joy through intimacy with God’s Son entrusted to you and with Mary, his tender Mother. Assure those you protect that they do not labor alone. Teach them to find Jesus near them and to watch over him faithfully as you have done.
—Pope John XXIII

What to Do For Dad?

Let's Share Some Father's Day Ideas

This Sunday (June 19) is Father’s Day. Do you have plans yet?

In our house, a couple of the younger girls will be away for the weekend, so I am hoping to pull together an early celebration while we are still all home.

After a month of birthdays and Confirmation, I am feeling a little partied out, though, and was hoping some of you could inspire me.

Do you have a creative idea for a Father’s Day gift for your husband or father this year? What kind of plans are you making for family celebrations?

Happy Birthday to ... a Whole Bunch of Us!

There’s going to be a bit of celebrating and cake-eating in the days ahead ...

Today, is our dear Rachel’s birthday. On Wednesday, both Rebecca and I will turn 23 wink and then next Wednesday, Lisa will be celebrating her birthday on the 15th.

This year will be a special birthday for me—my oldest daughter, Kateri, will be confirmed that evening and that will be the loveliest gift I could hope for.

Please join me in wishing all these other lovely Faith & Family ladies a whole lotta love and happiness (and chocolate) on their birthdays!

How I Do It

When people ask me how I find time to do all the things I do (like write or pray the Divine Office), I usually tell them it’s because I have lowered some of my housekeeping/homemaking standards to a shocking level. My methods of doing laundry would probably be rated R by Martha Stewart. And my son’s recent “birthday cake” is another example.

If you are one of those moms who makes gorgeous birthday... READ MORE

Spring, Spring, Spring!

Ma Nature's lyrical, with her yearly miracle

The first day of Spring is still a month away, but around here I can tell we’re moving past winter.

For almost a week now, I’ve taken the little ones on a walk every afternoon. It feels fantastic to be outside, to have the sunshine beating down on my skin, to be outdoors without a foot of layers protecting me from the weather.

This Monday, we had a school holiday. To celebrate, I loaded up my crew... READ MORE

Happy St. Valentine's Day!

How are you celebrating today?

Mini Valentine M&Ms? Check.

Chocolate milk? Check.

Boxes of Spiderman and Tinkerbell Valentines ripped open and spread all over the dining room table? Check.

Paints and brushes and soaked-through papers and masterpieces spread all over the dining room table? Check.

Plan for baking cupcakes this afternoon and a late steak dinner for two with wine? Check.

I must admit, after two weeks of nearly non-stop... READ MORE

Butterbeer? Why Yes!

a sweet and simple party drink for kids

When Kateri visited her good friends in Connecticut last week, one of the (thousands of!) things she came home talk-talk-talking about was Butterbeer. They made some themselves! It was so good! She couldn’t wait to make some for her brothers and sisters!

Not being very much of a Harry Potter fan myself, I had no idea what she was talking about.

Apparently, however, Butterbeer is a fantasy beverage... READ MORE

Santa Lucia

Do you celebrate?

Today is the feast day of St. Lucia. Did you do anything special?

Growing up, one of my very best friends celebrated Santa Lucia’s feastday by bringing cinnamon rolls to her sleeping family. My friend would get up before her parents and siblings, don a crown of candles and enter each room singing a lovely song about this wonderful saint.

Years later, she carries on that tradition with her own daughter.... READ MORE
