Today is the feast day of St. Lucia. Did you do anything special?
Growing up, one of my very best friends celebrated Santa Lucia’s feastday by bringing cinnamon rolls to her sleeping family. My friend would get up before her parents and siblings, don a crown of candles and enter each room singing a lovely song about this wonderful saint.

We did it! We baked him!
And all were pleased. Everyone, that is, but one 5-year-old who was pretty put-out to discover that the jolly old saint’s mustache was eaten by an older sibling while he was busy upstairs with Playmobil.
But on the whole, a success. Hope your feast day is happy too!

Hooray! It’s the feast of St. Nicholas!
I love this feast because it’s a perfect excuse to share some treats with the kids, take out the red tablecloth, and enjoy a “Little Christmas” before the real deal.

Pancake Day

While Danielle’s crew enjoyed a fancy feast for breakfast, we’re doing breakfast for dinner. For as long as I can remember, I’ve served up heaping towers of pancakes for dinner on Fat Tuesday—a feast before the fast. We haul out the syrup and the butter and I also add whatever extra ingredients people desire (namely: chocolate chips) to their flapjacks.
