Love It!

Now this I can handle

I came across this clever little dessert that I wanted to share—chocolate-dipped marshmallows that look like they will be delicious. What’s really nice about this recipe is that it looks like something I can actually pull together with zero effort.

(Between you and me, my plans for tomorrow night’s dessert include Paul buying something, smothered in chocolate, from the gourmet grocery store’s bakery.)

SO! Chocolate-dipped mallows I can do, maybe even for breakfast. And while we’re on the subject of clever, tasty treats, check out Elizabeth Foss’ suggestion right here.

(I’ve noticed all my posts of late have been about Valentine’s Day. What can I say? I’m a sucker for love. Also, I’m trying to get an award for most love-oriented posts in a single week.)

Chocolate Tangerine Semifreddo

If you happen to be stumped for a truly wonderful dessert for Christmas or parties during the Octave, here’s one I stumbled across last year.

It drew raves at our annual Christmas Eve dinner, and it’s not at all hard even if it has several steps.

I used fluted loaf pans to mold the semifreddo and they turned out beautifully. You could probably use a mold like this, too.  One serving tip: let it thaw slightly. Too cold and you can’t taste the tangerine. Here’s the link to the recipe with step-by-step photo instructions.

Chocolate Fudge

the never-fail kind

To me, there’s nothing sadder than a messed up batch of fudge.

You put all kinds of effort into the mixing, measuring, boiling, temperature taking, pouring, and cooling and then what should be a smooth and sinfully rich chocolate delight turns out grainy. Or mushy. Or too sweet. Or not quite sweet enough. It’s off. And it’s sad.

No more! For years now, fudge disappointment has not been a part of my... READ MORE

Chocolate Cake in a Mug

5 minutes to sweet satisfaction

It sounded too good to be true.

Chocolate cake in 5 minutes? When I saw the recipe around the internet, it intrigued me.

Then, when Michelle emailed me the recipe, I knew it was meant to be.

I picked a bleak afternoon (those are rather easy to come by these December days) and told some of the boys we were going to make chocolate cake. In a coffee mug. In five minutes.

They were game.

1 large coffee... READ MORE

Peppermint Bark

a recipe bleg

I have been doing some Christmas baking today, and I desperately wanted to make peppermint bark. My new Williams-Sonoma catalog came in the mail yesterday and their special bark featured prominently throughout.

Unfortunately, when I looked online, I couldn’t find a recipe that sounded like it would come out similar to this chocolately goodness.

Can you help? Do you have a sacred recipe for chocolate peppermint bark that looks and tastes as good as the stuff from Williams-Sonoma?

Please share!

Chocolate Chip Scones

Fair baking at its best!

The kids are baking today for this weekend’s fair.

When it comes to baking competitions, Stephen is very particular about his recipe choices. He likes to pick something basic and good, but different enough so that the competition in his category won’t be too stiff. Smart boy.

This year, he thought scones would be a reasonable choice. And he also thought that chocolate chips would be a good addition... READ MORE

Chocolate Snobs, Unite!

Is it chocolate ... or mockolate?

It pains me to write this post.

For the good of chocolate lovers everywhere, however, I simply must address this important topic.

It would appear that the makers of many popular chocolate bars and candies, including America’s favorite Hershey’s, have been seeking to cut costs by tinkering with their recipes and changing their products.

They have been replacing expensive cocoa butter with cheaper oils.... READ MORE
