Over 100 of you committed to ridding your homes of clutter this Lent—one bag at a time.
Since many of you also asked to receive regular reminders about the trash bag challenge, I created a Faith & Family Connect group for that purpose:
40 Bags in 40 Days at Faith & Family Connect
In addition to posting weekly reminders here on the blog, I will be posting and emailing more frequent reminders and pep talks there. Please join us!

I have about 12 weeks before our new baby arrives, and in those weeks I’m hoping to whittle away all the clutter I have around the house. Less is more, I chant to myself, less is more.
I’m hoping to deal with those out-of-the-way places that I don’t think about because out of sight really is out of mind. It’s funny how you can get used to things in a bathroom drawer or bedroom closet just being a... READ MORE
I Just Called to Say ...

I was checking voicemail the other day when I heard the automated lady tell me, “you have 12 saved messages.” 12? How did that happen?
I started listening, “Hi Robyn, this is Charlie from Windows Plus.” Delete.
One down. Next.
“Robyn, it’s Dad. Just calling to see how you are doing ...” A message I had saved from when I hurt my ankle. My stoic Dad, showing his love through a voicemail message. I can’t... READ MORE
The Urge to Purge

When Danielle showed us her beautiful garbage bag on Saturday, I made a comment about doing the same thing—how I had big plans for myself and a few bedrooms and closets around this joint.
Well here we are, three days later, and I have just finished. What happened? Where did the time go? Who fed my children while I was waist-deep in clutter?
Don’t get me wrong—I’m so glad I had the energy and wherewithal... READ MORE

Today, I offer you a lovely image for your weekend gazing pleasure: Behold, the glorious trash bag, as it sits awaiting its destiny at the dump, on my humble deck.
What’s so glorious about a trash bag, you ask?
Well. I have filled more than a few of these in recent days with broken Tonka trucks, miniature plastic shoes, random acts of styrofoam, and other unidentifiable substances found deep within bedroom closets and bottoms of toy boxes. Christmas is coming—no useless piece of junk is safe!
My policy about revealing the contents of these elegant sacks: Don’t ask, don’t tell.
Tell me that’s not glorious.
Taking Back Bedrooms

I sometimes walk into my kids’ bedrooms and wonder at the messes I find in there.
“How did it get so bad in here?” I’ll ask aloud.
The kids usually just shrug. No one sets out to make a mess. It just kind of happens. Bit by bit.
When I wrote about kids and their messes in the May/June issue of Faith & Family magazine, I heard from some moms who said, “Yes! That’s me! Now tell me how I can either 1)... READ MORE
Kids Live Here

I have been thinking lately about housework and we women who avoid it, let it pile up, feel stressed about it, look for shortcuts to handle it, and ignore it until we find ourselves shouting at it and all around it, and I have all too often come to this conclusion:
We are a bunch of whiny babies.
Whiny babies can be loosely defined as — persons who refuse to accept reality quietly.
By refusing to... READ MORE

Pack a Perfect Picnic
Get outdoors and enjoy some springtime sunshine with your meals! Lunch at the playground is free and easy fun for moms and kids alike. Some things to keep in mind:
Be safe. Perishable food can go bad quickly in the heat of the sun. Always pack refrigerated items in a cooler.
Save space. Bags of frozen fruit or frozen juice boxes can double as ice packs in your cooler.
Get creative.... READ MORE
