Coffee Break

I think I need one

SO I’M WRITING TO UPDATE YOU ALL, woah, ahem. I’m writing to update you on my coffee endeavors. They have been AWESOME. And then, a little too awesome.

For starters, it turns out my system is very (very! very! very!) sensitive to caffeine. I knew that, but had forgotten. I love caffeine, but have to take it in moderate amounts. Otherwise, the universe is no match for my brilliance.

So that was my... READ MORE

Walking Through Winter

How's the weather where you are?

After seeing Lisa’s video of natural beauty and warm weather in California over the weekend, I was inspired to share a bit of our snowy wonderland this morning. Take a short walk with me through the chilly New Hampshire woods!

Warm Wishes and a Hot Toddy

seasonal sipping at its best

When fellow Faith & Family blogger Hallie Lord told me to expect something ... perishable ... in the mail this Christmas, I wasn’t sure what to expect.

I was delighted to find out that she meant she had packed up and mailed me all the ingredients for Hot Toddies, along with a simple recipe.

How very cool is that? How sweet and festive and thoughtful! This creative gift idea is one that I might just... READ MORE

Talk About The Weather

Are you cold?

In last week’s Faith & Family Live podcast, I told Danielle and Lisa that we were freezing cold here in Georgia.

“Y’all,” I said in amazement, “it’s like 39 degrees here!”

“Awwww,” said Danielle, she who lives north of the Mason-Dixon line, “poor baby.”

(If you want to hear her brazen lack of sympathy, go here.)

To be honest, I totally thought I would get some compassion—even my brother who lives... READ MORE

Oh. No. Snow.

I lifted the shade this morning, and stood staring in disbelief.

There was white on the grass. On the fallen leaves. On the sidewalk. On the car.

The year’s first snowfall at my house.

Well, if you could call it that. It was more of that snowy-sleety mix that falls in giant clumps and deposits white slush everywhere. No snow angels today.

As a New Englander, I should be well aware of our unpredictable... READ MORE

Summertime, and the Sipping's Easy

Delicious drinks do more than hydrate

One day a couple of weeks ago, when I was at my mom’s house on a sultry afternoon, she offered me a Raspberry Lime Ricky.

That sounded good. I said yes. And it was good. Deliciously simple and refreshing, to be exact.

I looked up the recipe later and found this one which looked very similar to the beverage my mother prepared. I also found this recipe made with gin—that looked like it might be fun... READ MORE

Do You Love Winter?

Please help!

Now that Epiphany is over and the celebration of Our Lord’s Baptism is almost here, our Christmas celebration is winding down. This means it’s time for me to face something I dread.

(There should be ominous music playing here.)

WINTER.

I realize it’s already been winter for a while, especially here in Michigan, but during Advent and Christmas I find winter appealing. Soft falling flakes and frigid... READ MORE

Snow, Man

You never know...

In light of our discussions about how crazy cold it’s been down South lately (insert smiley face here), I wanted to let you know that there is a slight possibility that we are going to get some snow tonight.

I’ll keep you posted of course, and will be sure to take plenty of pictures of the 12-inch snowman we will very likely build. If we get even a handful of flurries, chances are good that everything in town will shut down. Schools will close, basketball games will be cancelled—we will stay tucked away in our homes and off of the wet and icy roads.

Which, if you’ve ever seen a Southerner drive in the snow, is probably exactly as it should be.

Frigid…ish

What does 'cold' mean to you?

Rachel’s mentioning that it is 26° in Georgia made me smile, because just last evening my husband and I were discussing the fact that there are different regional standards for what “cold” means.

Weather Underground has a map where you can see county-level severe weather warnings for entire country.  I noticed there were winter weather statements for counties in Florida, and I clicked on one, and... READ MORE
