The Only Story

There is only one story.
My dad, who is a storyteller himself, has been saying that for as long as I can remember. I don’t think he came up with the idea, but he loves it and repeats it often. There’s one story. Only one.

Kids and the Big Questions

My daughter loves to look at our wedding pictures, at Mama and Daddy all dressed up. She likes to talk about our wedding, too, and I tell her all the details she wants.
She did surprise me one day, though. “Mama, remember when you and Daddy got married? And I was there?”
“Sweetheart, you weren’t.”

Packing the Boxes of My Heart

My childhood home is in the footprint of an upcoming public works project. In September, the state bought it from my parents, and they were given 90 days to vacate it.
As my parents looked for a new house, my mom began a daily prayer, “Lord, please send us the right house at the right time.”
