Hello, Dolly!

a blast from the past

At the store recently, I grabbed a birthday gift for a niece—a tiny little Strawberry Shortcake doll.

I had these same dolls as a girl and when I sniffed the plastic case, a wave of memories washed over me. My sister and I had a nice little collection of “Strawberry Shortcakes,” and I remember my favorite being the Angel Food doll with her white hair and fresh scent.

I’m looking forward to more of... READ MORE

Playing Dolls

Grown women play with fake babies

Okay. When I saw a description of this video clip from the Today Show, I was prepared to be disturbed. Grown women playing with dolls—dressing them, naming them, talking to them, and taking them out in public? It’s creepy, right?

But the whole concept didn’t turn out to be as weird as I anticipated. These women aren’t so much creepy weirdos as they are collectors with an eye for beauty. These expensive... READ MORE
