Dyeing for Some Fun

5 Ways to Keep it Simple

This will be our fifteenth year of decorating Easter eggs on Holy Saturday. I guess that makes it a Bean family tradition.

Over the years, we’ve experimented a bit with different techniques. Natural dyes can be a lot of fun—art and science all in one!

With just a bit of preparedness, decoupage can produce some strikingly beautiful eggs (Check out Kristen’s gorgeous results).

Some of our chickens... READ MORE

Taking a Coffee Break

In recognition of Good Friday and Holy Saturday, we won’t be hosting our usual Coffee Talks here at Faith & Family Live today and tomorrow.

There will be some posting here, but it will be a bit quieter than usual as my fellow bloggers and I prepare for Easter. I pray God will bless all of you and your families as you prepare for and celebrate this sacred season!

The Road to Easter Day

Children's book brings the events of Holy Week to life!

Many mothers struggle with how to share the events and liturgies of Holy Week with their little ones.  A wonderful new book from Pauline Books and Media entitled The Road to Easter Day can help you share these precious stories with your child.

This picture book by author Jan Godfrey is sure to become a Lenten and Easter classic in your home.  It tells the story of Ben, a young boy who observes the... READ MORE

Triduum Juggling

How do you handle it?

Celebrating the Triduum is a lot easier when you don’t have children yet.

I remember the days when I could concentrate through Mass on Thursday, the Good Friday service, and the entire Easter Vigil, and use the time in between liturgies to read the scriptures and pray and meditate.

I love having children, but I do sometimes think wistfully of the simplicity of those days.

Bryan and I have had several... READ MORE

Spring?

How do y'all do this?

We are almost 20 days into Spring, but you would never know it from today’s weather. It is cold and blustery; I hear tomorrow is going to be even more frigid.

Tonight, the temps are dipping down into the 20s—that is cold for Spring in Georgia. There have been years when we’ve bundled up on Easter morning, but in general we are treated to afternoons with sun and warmth. After today, however, I’m rethinking... READ MORE

Easter Feasting

share your favorite recipes for Easter
http://www.flickr.com/photos/14735632@N07/2341792617/in/photostream/

As promised Sunday, here’s your opportunity to share—or plunder—favorite Easter recipes.

Our first Easter together, my husband Dennis requested “Easter Pie,” a traditional Italian meat and cheese dish.

What he neglected to specify was which version he desired, as each region of Italy has its own. And his non-Italian bride had not yet earned “Grandma’s” recipe so long as any of my new husband’s relatives... READ MORE

Match, Set

Nothing says Easter like matching outfits

My question this evening is simple: do you torture your children like I torture mine?

Every Easter for as long as I can remember, I have dressed the boys alike. The whole lot of them show up to Mass in matching outfits. One year it was seersucker with white shirts. Another year it was matching golf shirts. The year pictured here, which was four years ago, we were channeling the Osmond Brothers. I have not decided what we will do this year, but I’m thinking it will involve their blue blazers with a matching tie.

It’s not nearly as exciting as finding the perfect Easter dress, but I’ll take it!
