Deviled Eggs Dressed Up

Try this easy Caesar twist

Smitten Kitchen is my favorite food blog, and last month she had recipe for Caesar salad deviled eggs that I bookmarked immediately. Then I got busy with cooking for Christmas and forgot all about it.

Fast forward to January when - having resolved to add protein to my diet - I pulled the recipe up again, only to discover upon careful reading that it’s fairly fussy. It involves two pans and a mixing... READ MORE

Easter Egg Sweetness

a cute idea!

Here’s a clever idea for Easter—sweet little eggs filled with a message!

I love the idea of putting inside the egg a note of encouragement, or maybe even a scripture. I know some families who hide the Easter baskets for the children to find—maybe these eggs could hold little clues!

(As an aside, I know we are still in the season of Lent and here I am posting about celebratory treats again, but I... READ MORE

Egg Recall

Have you checked yours?

I’m sure many of you have seen this already, but in case you haven’t: a new outbreak of salmonella poisoning has led to an egg recall.

The FDA has details about it here.

Let's Talk About the Candy

What's your favorite?

Happy Easter!

Now that the long season of Lent is finally over, can we talk about something important? Like ... Easter candy? You know your house is full of it.

After reading about all the fun and creative things readers here do for their families at Easter, I am eager to know this too: What’s your favorite candy? What treats were a hit this year with you and your family?

I’ve blogged before about... READ MORE

In Which I Get Easter Crafty

Today's Eggs-citing Achievement

(If pretty crafting-with-kids posts intimidate you, make sure you scroll all the way down for this crafty post’s reality check)

Hey, we did it!

I am talking about that cute-looking Easter egg decorating craft from Kristen Laurence that I posted earlier this week, of course.

I’m pretty proud of myself, actually. This crafty stuff really does require me stepping outside of my comfort zone a bit.

We... READ MORE

Cookie Eggs

Can’t get enough egg decorating?

Here’s yet another form, with step-by-step instructions.

Egg-cellent Idea for Easter

I think I can do this
Kristen's decoupage beauties

I am so inspired!

Check out the gorgeous eggs Kristen Laurence and her girls made! This is one of those links that I bookmarked around Easter Monday of last year ... and I actually remembered to click it on time for our eggy activities this year.

Mod Podge? Napkins? Eggs? I think even this craft-challenged mom can handle that. We’ll still do our traditional PAAS egg-dipping on Saturday morning, but I am going to pick up some items at the craft store later today and give this more “grown up” version a try too.

Dyeing for Some Fun

5 Ways to Keep it Simple

This will be our fifteenth year of decorating Easter eggs on Holy Saturday. I guess that makes it a Bean family tradition.

Over the years, we’ve experimented a bit with different techniques. Natural dyes can be a lot of fun—art and science all in one!

With just a bit of preparedness, decoupage can produce some strikingly beautiful eggs (Check out Kristen’s gorgeous results).

Some of our chickens... READ MORE
