A Woman's Place
Posted by Rachel Balducci in Family on Wednesday, September 14, 2011
The very first Eucharistic congress was held in 1881 in Lille, France. The very first organizer, according to Vatican Information Services, was a woman.
It is not widely known that the idea to hold these congresses came from a woman, a French woman called Emilie-Marie Tamisier, one of the many lay people to dedicate their lives to the defence of the Church at a time in which anti-Catholic polemics... READ MORE
Rejoice!

Our parish does First Communion on Easter. In his homily Sunday morning our pastor talked about why they do this: because they want to form a connection in the children’s minds and hearts between the Resurrection and the Eucharist.
He told a story of a little boy in the first communion class a few years ago who bounded up to him before Mass and shouted, “Father, Father! I can’t believe I get to receive... READ MORE
Divorced, Not Separated…From The Church
Posted by Rebecca Teti in Marriage on Thursday, April 14, 2011
I know I’ve posted on this before, but so many divorced Catholics think they’re unwelcome at Church, I like to remind people periodically that it’s not so!
Particularly as we get close to Holy Week and souls may be inspired to “come home for Easter,” I call your attention to two sites that may be helpful and informative.
Divorcedcatholic.org has an excellent set of FAQs about divorced persons, the... READ MORE
Mass Blessings
Posted by Lisa Hendey in Faith on Tuesday, June 22, 2010
This weekend, the boys and I had the pleasure of attending the 10:15 am Chinese Mass at the lovely Ss. Peter and Paul Church in San Francisco. The church sits beautifully on Washington Square, its spires visible from many parts of the city. In our suburban home, we typically drive to and from Mass, so even being able to walk to Mass was a special treat.
But the most amazing blessing of all was worshiping... READ MORE

Sacramental Lego

I was enchanted by this email from reader Becky Thomson, describing a special Lego project her husband worked on with their son as a gift to William, who is receiving his First Communion this year:
“I just had to tell you what my husband and kindergartener made for the First Holy Communion of our second grader, William. We have three boys (ages 10, 8 and 5) so hardly a day goes by when they aren’t... READ MORE
First Communion Question
Posted by Lisa Hendey in Faith on Tuesday, April 20, 2010
As we enjoy the beauty and traditions of First Holy Communion season, I recently received an email from someone who was requesting information on the various means of receiving the Eucharist at First Communion celebrations. In her parish, first communicants are strongly encouraged to receive the Eucharist in the hand at their First Communion. Families in the parish have questioned this practice... READ MORE
To Find the Answer
Posted by Arwen Mosher in Faith on Friday, January 29, 2010
Today was another rough day, and when my (sainted) husband got home from work he suggested I go out by myself for a couple hours while he tackled bedtime solo.
Honestly, I intended to go to the bookstore, but through a concatenation of circumstances I ended up at our parish’s Adoration chapel instead.
During our extended period of subfertility I regularly found solace in Eucharistic Adoration. I would... READ MORE
'This is a Hard Saying'
Posted by Danielle Bean in Faith on Sunday, August 23, 2009
Jesus said to the twelve, “Do you also wish to go away?” Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life; and we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God.”
—John 6:67-69
We do believe Lord; help our unbelief.
'My Flesh is Food Indeed'
Posted by Danielle Bean in Faith on Sunday, August 16, 2009
So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you; he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him.
—John 6:53-56
Lord, help us to recognize and appreciate the precious gift of the Eucharist.
