My sister and I like to cook together, and for a couple years now we’ve been looking every autumn for a good recipe for pumpkin muffins. We hadn’t had any luck. Recipes would look promising but the muffins would turn out dense or dry or both.

Fall has finally come to the South, which somedays means we turn on our heat in the morning and our air conditioning in the afternoon.

Someday I will craft a stunning autumn-themed centerpiece for the dining room.
It will feature glowing candles, Indian corn, miniature pumpkins, and gourds of every color and kind.
Everyone will admire it. And no one will touch it.
No one will pick the kernels off the Indian corn, play football with the mini pumpkins or drill holes in the gourds with a dinner fork.

Our little spot in New Hampshire is most definitely a tourist town. In the summer, people come from all over the country to enjoy our lakes. And in the fall, they come back for the foliage.
I sometimes grumble about in-town traffic and being unable to find a parking spot at my favorite town stores, but for the most part I don’t blame tourists for coming here. It is beautiful.
