New Words on the Way
Posted by Arwen Mosher in Faith on Wednesday, November 09, 2011
Are you counting down? Just 18 days to go!
Until we switch to the new missal translation, that is. It’ll be implemented in American parishes on November 27th, the first Sunday of Advent.
At our parish we’ve already started singing the diocesan-mandated set of new Mass parts in preparation, but it occurred to me this week: we’ve only got two Sundays left to say the English words of the Mass I’ve always... READ MORE
The Pope's Pep Talk to Families
Posted by Danielle Bean in Family on Tuesday, June 07, 2011
Many thanks to our Canadian friends in Quebec, Michel et Myrielle, for highlighting an important message in the pope’s homily in Croatia on the National Day of Croatian Catholic Families:
Christian families are a decisive resource for education in the faith, for the up-building of the Church as a communion and for her missionary presence in the most diverse situations in life.
and ...
Dear families,... READ MORE
Multitasking Mamas

“I am woman. Hear me roar.” I can do 5 things at the same time. What skill! Uh, right? Lately, I’m having my doubts.
A priest recently spoke about Mother Teresa. A friend of his was able to spend a few minutes with her. What struck him most was her spirit of detachment.
At the very moment she was in his presence, a million things with her order’s sisters were going on around the world. Important... READ MORE

A Walk In My Shoes - 2:33 TRLR from Moms4FamilyTV.com on Vimeo.
There’s a lot to complain about on television these days, so when a major network gets it right, I am eager to support their family-friendly projects. Though I have not yet seen the latest movie they are promoting, all indications are that NBC’s “Family Movie Night” is a project worthy of our support.
You can find out more about the newest... READ MORE
Giving Thanks

Do you invite other individuals or families over on Thanksgiving? Here is an interesting article about a man who invited strangers over for dinner one year. Facing a lonely holiday, he opted to put an ad in the paper and cook for the first twelve people to answer.
“So I just thought, well, there must be some other people that are in the same boat. Why should they have that rotten feeling? Why should... READ MORE
Our Moms' Special Day
Posted by Arwen Mosher in Family on Thursday, May 06, 2010
Since becoming a mother, I tend to think of Mother’s Day as “my” day.
I’m not proud to admit it, but I’ve lost sight of the fact that it’s my mom’s day, too. Not that I’ve completely forgotten to acknowledge it. I’ve just failed to put extra effort into making my own mother’s Mother’s Day something special.
I think of myself as being “in the trenches” of motherhood, while my mom - whose sixth and... READ MORE

Down Syndrome & Courage
Posted by Rebecca Teti in Family on Tuesday, November 03, 2009
Upwards of 80% of children with Down syndrome are aborted in this country.
Archbishop Chaput has written an eloquent essay about what that means for our culture.
I just wanted to highlight a passage he writes about the several friends he has who are parents of children with different kinds of genetic disorders—just because I thought it was lovely.
He’s no Pollyanna about what it takes to raise... READ MORE
Are You A Bumpaholic?
Posted by Rebecca Teti in Family on Friday, August 21, 2009
The Today Show recently did a feature on “bumpaholism.”
It “afflicts” women who love the attention pregnancy affords them.
Or something like that.
While I would like to be outraged, some things strike me as too silly to worry about—I can only laugh at the notion that any sizable number of people is getting pregnant just to have strangers rub her belly.
Slow news day, much?
However, there is a form... READ MORE
Sick or Feverish
Posted by Arwen Mosher in Health on Tuesday, August 18, 2009
Camilla got sick last night for no apparent reason.
She was fine again afterward, so it wasn’t a bug or food poisoning. She was lying quietly on the couch at the time, so it wasn’t motion sickness or hysteria that caused the problem.
We think maybe she was overheated? Getting sick just because you’re warm seems extreme, but Camilla has always been what I affectionately refer to as a “puker.” My... READ MORE
