Decent Exposure

Check out this great new program for teenage girls!

I’m happy to help spread the word, especially among my West Coast friends, about an upcoming event being held especially for young ladies.

Decent Exposure is a program for designed for teenage girls.  On their website, they share the following mission:

“We believe magazines and television pressure girls to conform themselves to unrealistic images of women, teaching girls to mask their true beauty. Inspired by fashion icons such as Audrey Hepburn, we realize that true beauty is timeless and transcends trendy fads that may come and go. The formation classes culminate in a fashion show styled by Katelyn Rose of SuddenlyDarling.com.”

Learn more about Decent Exposure, including details for their July 11th Fashion show at their website

Match, Set

Nothing says Easter like matching outfits

My question this evening is simple: do you torture your children like I torture mine?

Every Easter for as long as I can remember, I have dressed the boys alike. The whole lot of them show up to Mass in matching outfits. One year it was seersucker with white shirts. Another year it was matching golf shirts. The year pictured here, which was four years ago, we were channeling the Osmond Brothers. I have not decided what we will do this year, but I’m thinking it will involve their blue blazers with a matching tie.

It’s not nearly as exciting as finding the perfect Easter dress, but I’ll take it!

That March For Life Look

why should the First Lady get all the fashion buzz?

What—besides a warm coat and a cool sign—is the well-dressed pro-life marcher wearing these days?

So glad you asked.

One thing that’s changed in the two decades short time I’ve been Marching for Life: we dress better.

Not that anyone then or ever has been overly worried how we look. The main thing is to keep warm while being a voice for the powerless.

Nonetheless, people have discovered that it’s... READ MORE

Looking Good

Can hair and make-up change the world?

All this talk of Sarah Palin and her stunning wardrobe has got me thinking about fashion and looking good—things not always on the forefront of my mind as a housewife and freelance writer. When the main outing of my day involves grabbing a gallon of milk at the grocers, I’m rarely inclined to break out my haute couture.

Since giving birth to Henry, I have been in something of a beauty rut. A combination... READ MORE

Power of Fashion

Should we be outraged by the exploitation of poverty if we are not outraged by poverty itself?

Vogue India has sparked controversy recently with an August fashion spread featuring impoverished Indian people modeling clothing and accessories that are worth more than they are likely to earn in a lifetime.

The editorial spread was “not just tacky but downright distasteful” said Kanika Gahlaut, a columnist for the daily newspaper Mail Today that is based here, who denounced it as an “example of... READ MORE

After “America’s Next Top Model,” Leah Darrow was looking for something more.

By Father Ernest Daly, LC

When Leah Darrow appeared as a contestant on the hit reality TV show “America’s Next Top Model,” she says, “My eyes were dramatically opened to the pitfall of today’s desire to be the next ‘beautiful thing.’”

Yet, when she was eliminated on the TV show, she wanted to capitalize on her fame while she could. She made the fateful decision to move to New York, leaving her family... READ MORE

The Homefront

Food, home, self, and money helps for better living.

Pack a Perfect Picnic

Get outdoors and enjoy some springtime sunshine with your meals! Lunch at the playground is free and easy fun for moms and kids alike. Some things to keep in mind:

Be safe. Perishable food can go bad quickly in the heat of the sun. Always pack refrigerated items in a cooler.

Save space. Bags of frozen fruit or frozen juice boxes can double as ice packs in your cooler.

Get creative.... READ MORE

12 Ways We Love to Be Beautiful

Beauty favorites from the women of Faith & Family.
