Panda To Me

which kid movies are worth seeing?

Can you stand another movie post this week?

This time I’m soliciting your advice.

Is there a kid movie this summer that’s worth forking over the outrageous fortunes it now takes to see a flick in a theater?

I’m asking specifically about Cars 2 and whichever Kung-Fu Panda this is, but if there’s something else meritorious, please steer me towards it.

Every parent has his own take on what is and... READ MORE

Witness The Power of Forgiveness

The Grace Card Opens February 25

If supporting family-friendly movies with powerful, meaningful themes is important to you, you will want to make a date to see The Grace Card when it opens in theaters next weekend, beginning February 25. Check out the trailer:

Learn more about the movie and find a theater near you. See you there!

Secretariat: Winner of a Family Movie

a must-see!

Last Friday night, Dan and I took all the kids to see Secretariat. (We checked it out at Kids in Mind first and you should too, to be sure it’s a good fit for you and your kids).

It ... was ... an awesome family movie.

I cried, but of course that doesn’t tell you anything. I always cry. But I think a few male members of the family might have had some moist eyes as well.

It was just such a touching... READ MORE

What Are Your Favorite Romantic Comedies?

I'm gathering date night suggestions

Dan and I recently enjoyed watching Letters to Juliet.

It was certainly not high art, but it was a cute little story (I think completely inoffensive, but don’t quote me on that—I might have forgotten something!) and made for a fun evening together.

We enjoy watching lots of different kinds of movies, but when it’s my turn to choose what we watch, I pretty much always pick a romantic comedy.

But picking... READ MORE

Toy Story 3: Did You Cry?

It's time to come clean

***Spoiler Alert!*** If you haven’t seen Toy Story 3 yet and want to avoid hearing about details of the plot, I cannot guarantee that this post will be safe reading for you.***

I took a group of boys to see the newly-released Toy Story 3 over the weekend. The big boys opted to sit by themselves up front while 3-year-old Danny and I chose seats a few rows back.

That was a good choice.

Little did my... READ MORE

The Passion on Good Friday

Would you watch?

Every Good Friday after the liturgy, my dad watches Mel Gibson’s 2004 movie The Passion of the Christ. Some of my family members always watch it with him.

I am never one of them. I saw the movie in the theater during Holy Week the year it came out, and I’m glad I did, but I haven’t watched it since then.

There are a couple reasons for this. First of all, I’m a very visual person and I have a near-photographic... READ MORE

Fatima Film Debuts Next Week

Your Chance to See a Great New Film

You can read Daria Sockey’s review of the newly-released film about the story of Fatima, The 13th Day, in today’s feature article.

Says Anthony Ryan, Director of Marketing for Ignatius Press, the North American distributor of the film:

“The 13th Day is an antidote film for our time. It is a reminder that a thin veil exists between our world and the next. The Message of Fatima is a relevant wake-up call to a culture torn apart by abortion, war, and injustice. Every Catholic, perhaps every person, should see this film.”

Check out Catholic Screenings to learn more about where you can register for a screening of this inspiring new film.

Great Pick for Weekend Flick

Children of Heaven is a must-see DVD

When Children of Heaven arrived from Netflix last weekend, Dan read the description on the sleeve and ... declined.

Shoe-sharing Iranian children? Subtitles? No thanks, he said.

But I didn’t let that discourage me. I watched it all by myself one night and let me tell you ... Dan missed out.

This is such a beautifully made, touching film. The story is so very simple that I will not even comment on... READ MORE

Filming Grace

The Movie Man Who Bumped into God

By Simcha Fisher

Aaron Wiederspahn is a man who follows through.

The 36-year-old writer and director of the independent film The Sensation of Sight has chosen a difficult road for his fledgling production company, either/or films: He wants to bring his characters — and thus the audience — to an inescapable confrontation with mystery, “the mystery of grace.”

“It’s like Jacob wrestling with God,”... READ MORE

Bringing Faith to Film

Young people bring Christ to a new generation ... through movies

Digitally Pro-Life

Matthew Connors, age 19

No one knew better than Pope John Paul II the importance of using the media to proclaim the Gospel. It’s a lesson some young people are absorbing and answering.

“I always wanted to tell stories through film,” says 19-year-old college sophomore Matthew Connors. Looking for a school last year, he found John Paul the Great University in San Diego, Calif. —... READ MORE
