Games for Moms

Play along!

I have a game I like to play with myself these days. I call it How Much Would You Pay for a Nap?

“Self,” I ask, “how much would you pay to have someone come take over all your responsibilities for a few hours so you could have a nap?”

If things are running smoothly, I decide I’d part with no more than 50 bones. On a rough day, like when I have a headache and the babies are fussy, I consider giving... READ MORE

Let's Get Glowing

GlowCrazy makes a great gift for kids!

In late December, I received a GlowCrazy review product in the mail. Being the smart mom that I am, I immediately wrapped it, labeled it “From Santa,” and packed it to take along on our trip to Florida.

This is not a fancy flashing giz-mo kind of toy. It is just ultra-cool. The box includes a small, flexible screen, a pen “light” and some stencils.

I have no idea how it works, but when you dim the... READ MORE

Puzzle Power

Are you a player?

For the past several years, my best friend has been playing the daily Sudoku puzzle that comes in our town’s newspaper.  She works the puzzle by hand with a pencil as a part of her morning workout, in the same way she heads to the gym and does her other morning rituals.  And for years I’ve teased her about the fact that someday I’ll be senile and she’ll be sharp as a tack.

I’ve never been a puzzle... READ MORE

More Laughs With Brian Regan

funny man from a family of 10

I got a hugely positive reaction when I posted a video featuring a comedy act from Brian Regan on my own blog (especially from my kids, most of whom now have the video memorized). So I decided to look for some other clips of his stuff to share here.

Brian grew up in a large family—one of eight children. There’s a lot of his stuff on YouTube, but this hilariously accurate bit about kids’ party games... READ MORE

No One Beat Me Up

Sharing childhood fun
My siblings and me a decade ago

“If I had to use two words to describe my childhood,” my sister said the other day, “they would be: pink belly.”

I was unloading the dishwasher and almost dropped a handful of forks. What?!? Pink belly? What was she talking about?

Apparently, “pink belly” is a game wherein the perpetrators hold down the victim and smack him on the belly until it turns pink.

I am the oldest of six children, and Tirienne... READ MORE

Why Was 6 Afraid of 7?

Math Game Giveaway!

Out of the Box Publishing recently came out with three new card games and boy was I excited to get review samples to try out for myself. Luckily I have a sister next door with six kids so there are plenty of opportunities to play games.

Last night my sister was having a party so I decided to bring the card game 7 Ate 9.

Kian (age 10) and Fiona (age 8) asked to play. We opened the tin case and started... READ MORE

Not a "Fun" Mom

my confession

In today’s podcast we talked about parenting little ones, and I mentioned how much joy I get from my children. They are precious to me, and being their mother fills my heart with happiness on a day to day basis.

I know, that sounds cheesy, but it’s true.

What I didn’t mention, because it wasn’t the topic of the podcast, but which is also true: I think I might enjoy my kids a lot more than they enjoy... READ MORE
