Please Pray for Jonah's Mom
Posted by Danielle Bean in Faith on Monday, October 24, 2011
In today’s Coffee Talk discussion, a mom named Ashley shared a link to her heartbreaking story of the unexpected death of her infant son Jonah last week.
I know the faithful community of moms here will not fail to hold this family—and especially his mom Ashley—in prayer during this time of mourning. Jonah is in good hands, but his grieving family needs our love and support.
“I lift up my eyes to the hills—from where will my help come? My help comes from the Lord.”

Eternal Rest

Recently my family received some very shocking news. My younger cousin died suddenly at the age of 22. I can’t tell you the amount of sadness that we all felt at such a young death.
It is tragedies like this, that make one question whether our God is good.
Why God? Why so young? Is there anything I could have done? Why didn’t you take my life instead? Are you in control?
But it is tragedies like... READ MORE

You guys!
My weekend visit to the National Shrine of Divine Mercy this weekend was amazing and exhausting and amazing and did I mention exhausting?
I brought along five of my kids, and the gang of us had a most memorable trip. I shared some photos on my Facebook page, but that album did not include any photos of the new (still under construction) Shrine of the Holy Innocents that is on site in Stockbridge,... READ MORE

Remembering Ryan

I was devastated yesterday to learn that the family of mom blogger and occasional Faith & Family writer Mary Ellen Barrett has suffered a terrible loss.
Yesterday, they lost their 13-year-old son Ryan in a tragic drowning accident. Ryan was autistic and Mary Ellen has written eloquently about the blessing he was in her life. Please keep Ryan and the Barrett family in your prayers.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord. And may he rest in peace.

Even if you are not currently suffering a great catastrophe, Fr. Benedict Groeschel’s new book, Tears of God: Persevering in the Face of Great Sorrow or Catastrophe, is a worthwhile read for everyone.
Fr. Groeschel writes from the heart ... and experience. The inspiration for this particular book was Fr. Groeschel’s own catastrophic experience of suffering life-threatening injuries when he was hit... READ MORE
How Can We Help Children Grieve?
Posted by Danielle Bean in Family on Friday, March 13, 2009
Amy Welborn, who lost her husband Michael Dubruiel to a heart attack last month, has a heart-wrenching post at Via Media today about how her sons have been handling the loss of their father.
When Amy sent me the link this afternoon, she specifically requested that I post it here and ask for input from Faith & Family readers. She is unsure how best to handle her children’s grief and would be grateful for any suggestions you can offer or experiences you can share. Like me, she has confidence in the goodness and wisdom of the people who read here.
Please go read her post and, if you can, leave some comments on this difficult and yet very important topic.
