Head Over Heels
Posted by Lisa Hendey in Just me on Monday, February 13, 2012
I’ve had a topsy turvy few days since I took a spill in my kitchen late last week. It happened in the midst of the morning rush, and thankfully Adam was nearby to help me get up while my ER doctor husband slumbered peacefully upstairs. The cause? A combination of rushing and clumsiness. At the time when I fell, I didn’t think anything more than my pride had been injured, but as the weekend progressed... READ MORE
Health Insurance Reform & The Bishops
Posted by Rebecca Teti in News on Monday, March 15, 2010
When a group of “Catholic” hospitals endorsed the health care bill up for a vote this week, it made headlines.
The USCCB, however, while in favor of health insurance reform, strongly opposes the bill.
In a bulletin insert sent to dioceses around the country, the bishops urged Catholics to call their representatives and oppose this bill.
Bishop Loverde of Arlington is calling for days of prayer and fasting against passage of the bill.... READ MORE
Knowing Your Health Care Options

Yesterday, I went on a “mom field trip” to visit my new friend Genevieve who has the enviable job of “Social Media Coordinator” at our regional children’s hospital, Children’s Hospital of Central California. In her newly created position, Genevieve is using social media sites like Facebook and Twitter to better educate the families of the Central Valley about her hospital, but more importantly about... I See FOCA
Posted by Rebecca Teti in News on Monday, January 11, 2010
At the Register’s new site, Tom Hoopes notes that just about every measure of FOCA will be accomplished by the health care bill.
Here’s just one example:
FOCA MAKES ABORTION A RIGHT. It creates a “fundamental right” to abortion throughout the nine months of pregnancy. No governmental body at any level would be able to “deny or interfere with” this right, or to “discriminate” against the exercise of this right “in the regulation or provision of benefits, facilities, services, or information.” For the first time, abortion would become an entitlement the government must condone and promote.
HEALTH BILL MAKES ABORTION A REGULATORY REQUIREMENT. In the Senate health bill, the federal government provides or requires health insurance that does exactly that. So what’s the difference?
Read the whole post for a systematic list of everything the health care bills in their current forms accomplish.
See if you don’t see FOCA too.
Yet Another Sarcastic Black & White Video About Health Care Reform

After seeing the originals and talking about sarcasm yesterday, are you getting tired of these? Strangely, I don’t think I am yet.
Catholic Vote Takes on Health Care

I would love to hear your opinion of this latest video from CatholicVoteAction.org, the legislative arm of CatholicVote.org. It’s a response to this sarcastic video from MoveOn.org. I’ll wait and share my thoughts in the comments after others have weighed in.
Doctors, Of The Church
Posted by Rebecca Teti in News on Wednesday, September 23, 2009
Monday the Catholic Medical Association released an open letter to Catholics on health care reform.
They’re not Doctors of the Church, but they are doctors. Of the church.
Which brings me to a point not so much about health care reform as about the role of the laity.
As Benedict XVI repeatedly points out, the Church has no desire to impose particular political solutions. In each of his three encyclicals... READ MORE

Obama's Euthanasia Mistake
Posted by Rebecca Teti in News on Tuesday, August 11, 2009
Here’s one of the most interesting pieces I’ve read on our health care debate.
It’s written by a bona fide Liberal who has little sympathy with “right-to-lifers” and ardently desires universal health care.
But he thinks the “end-of-life” issues in the current proposals are morally repugnant.
Bad for everyone, but especially for the poor they’re supposed to benefit.
Read the whole thing for an interesting... READ MORE
What Do You Hear About Health Care?
Posted by Rebecca Teti in Health on Tuesday, August 04, 2009
This article about Congressman Joseph Cao of Louisiana’s decision to oppose the health care plan caught my eye.
“Being a Jesuit [he was once a seminarian and continues to adhere to Ignatian spirituality], I very much adhere to the notion of social justice,” Cao said.
“I do fully understand the need of providing everyone with access to health care, but to me personally, I cannot be privy to a law... READ MORE
