Helping Hands

My sister stopped by briefly this morning to drop some stuff off, and I could see that she was upset. Her mouth was compressed, and I was sure that her eyes were red behind her sunglasses.

Recently we were at my husband’s father’s birthday party and we had Blaise with us. He started fussing, so Bryan took him upstairs to calm him down.
Bryan’s godmother, with whom I was in conversation at the time, nodded her head at Bryan as he walked away.
“My husband was pretty good at helping with our kids, for the time,” she said. “But he never would have done that.”

Big Family Inequity?

I spent a lot of time when I was a teenager doing free babysitting. At least, it felt that way to me.
I’m the oldest of six children, and there’s a ten-year age gap between me and my youngest brother. By the time I was in high school my parents rarely hired babysitters anymore; they just put me in charge and went on their merry way.
