Big Love v EWTN

http://thecrescat.blogspot.com/2010/04/thank-you-kind-readers.html

Here’s a firecracker from Catholic screenwriter and Pepperdine professor Barbara Nicolosi.

In an interview about Christians in the arts she says:

“The saddest realities to look at are not Hustler magazine and Big Love.  Much more tragic is what you find on EWTN and CBN, because these things are devoid of creativity and devoid of respect for the audience. They are banal. They may be produced with the... READ MORE

Sandra Bullock Offers Wise Words at the Oscars

Did you watch?
CBS News

So I watched the Oscars.

I wasn’t planning to, but then there they were. And there I was. And I watched.

I like pretty dresses and flashy jewelry and seeing movie stars playing themselves in real life. I take comfort in knowing I’m not the only Catholic woman who pays attention to such frivolous stuff.

By the time it was nearly midnight, though, I was beginning to question my decision to commit to... READ MORE

Dear Hollywood

A campaign aimed at promoting chastity

Kudos to the ladies of Growing Up Lane and Visualize Love for their incredible idea, “Project Chaste”.  Sick of the lies today’s media moguls heap on teens and young adults, they have come together to send a message that many young people today are choosing chastity and have the strength to withstand attacks and misinformation.  Please check out the video below and help me spread the word about Project Chaste.  Way to go, girls!!

From Puerile to Pure

My head nearly exploded when I read that director Joe Eszterhas was penning the script for a film on Our Lady of Guadalupe.

Joe Eszterhas! Has Hollywood no limits whatever?

(My eyes are still burning from a morally repugnant interview he granted to the Washington Post years ago at the height of his career.)

To my delight, however, the fellow once known for creating sordid films has experienced a... READ MORE

Academy Awards

Will you watch?

Do you watch the Oscars?

I admit that if it were up to me, I would probably watch every minute of the way-too-long ceremony. I like the glamor, the fashion, and the up-close look at so many stars in one spot.

Most years, however, my husband saves me from my superficial self. He, who is Master of the Remote Control, has very little interest and, so the most I usually see are bits and pieces of the awards here and there.

I thought it might be fun, though, to have an open thread where we share some of our thoughts on the Academy Awards.

Who do you think should win? Who do you think will win? And, go ahead and get a little superficial—who looks great? Which dress is your favorite?
