Is Your Parish Serving Your Family Online?

What online services and support do you desire from your parish?

This weekend, I will be presenting a few sessions at the wonderful Catholic New Media Conference hosted by SQPN.com - the Star Quest Production Network founded by Fr. Roderick Vonhögen.  I know that some of our readers (including my buddies Danielle and Rachel) have enjoyed past CNMCs. It’s a time for fellowship with other geeks and communicators, for stimulating discussions about the Church’s use... READ MORE

Beware The Giant Hand Of Condescension

Not to ignite another heated internet discussion about how heated internet discussions can get, but…

this is too amusing not to share.

OSV's Catholic Guide to the Internet

Reader's Choice Edition

Earlier this week, I was thrilled to learn that Faith & Family Live has earned a spot in the OSV Cathoilc Guide to the Internet—Reader’s choice edition.

Also on the list is our own Lisa Hendey for her site, CatholicMom.com. Congrats Lisa!

There are dozens of others—all worth checking out, and some of which I did not know of previously. It’s definitely worth browsing through the links there to find some great new resources.

Faith & Family Live is honored to have made the list. THANK YOU for reading here and for voting for us!

Have You Seen the New Inside Catholic?

Change is Good

Cool! Did you see that Inside Catholic got a makeover (and it’s ongoing)?

They’re doing lots of to make the site more interactive and there are upcoming plans for making its content more accessible from mobile devices. Inside Catholic is one of my favorite news and reading spots online, so I am happy to see them making these changes for the better.

Why don’t you head on over and check them out for yourself?

Does the Internet Affect Your Prayer Life?

Fr. James Martin Makes a Point

First of all, can I just say how happy I am to see Fr. James Martin writing for the Huffington Post? His words are always a breath of fresh air to this mom who finds most other entries there discouraging, if not disturbing, to Catholic thinkers.

His latest, Does E-Mail Make It Harder to Pray? How the Digital Age Is Changing Spiritual Life, is no exception.

There’s been a lot of online talk about the... READ MORE

That Useless Old Internet

The pundits don't always get it right

I was amused recently to read a 1995 Newsweek column by Clifford Stoll, in which he predicts the demise of that useless old internet thing.

A small sample:

Do our computer pundits lack all common sense? The truth in no online database will replace your daily newspaper, no CD-ROM can take the place of a competent teacher and no computer network will change the way government works.

First of all, back... READ MORE

Meeting You!

when Online meets In Real Life

I had the opportunity to speak at a women’s breakfast this past Saturday and imagine my delight when more than a few of the attendees introduced themselves as readers of this blog. I felt like I was seeing family!

The internet can certainly be a funny dynamic—you can make real connections with people from all over the world, people you would never get the chance to meet otherwise. But it can sometimes... READ MORE

A Word Game Change of Heart

thanks to the Internet

I never thought I’d say this, but I may yet learn to love Scrabble.

It usually surprises people when I tell them I’m not a Scrabble fan, but I can’t help it. Generally I like word games - Boggle and I have a happy relationship of many years standing, and when I was in college I whiled away many blissful hours playing Text Twist online - but I’ve never enjoyed Scrabble.

I suspect it’s because a) I... READ MORE
