What Do You Put In These Things?
Posted by DariaSockey in Food on Wednesday, July 06, 2011
After putting on a very satisfactory July 4th barbecue, with leftovers to last much of the week, I’m really not feeling the need to try new recipes.
But here is something simple that might help some of us moms this summer ...
On my next trip to the dollar store, I’m going to pick up some popsicle molds and start experimenting. Back when all seven kids were at home, these molds were essential equipment. ... READ MORE
Yummy Cookbook

Lisa’s post on her new fave kitchen appliance prompted me to write about my favorite book to go with that—Ben and Jerry’s Homemade Ice Cream and Dessert Book.
I bought this for Paul last Christmas when I got him the ice-cream maker Lisa is so excited about. The whole family loves it! If you’re looking for delcious, easy recipes for an ice-cream maker, I recommend this book. I think it would make a nice Valentine’s gift for the sweet lover in your life.
On that note, what are you giving your beloved for Valentine’s Day this year? I’d love to hear some ideas.

I just love the day before Thanksgiving ... So much busy-ness! So much baking!
What are you baking today?
I am keeping track of my kitchen progress over at my blog today, and I hope you will share your accomplishments here. What have you cooked/will you cook today?
How Do I Clean This Thing?
Posted by Danielle Bean in Homemaking on Monday, May 24, 2010
Back when I wrote that swoony post about my how much I have been enjoying my new waffler maker, I think I was still in the honeymoon phase of that particular appliance relationship.
I still use my waffler maker a few times a week, but I am getting just a little bit annoyed. At the mess.
How on earth can I keep this thing clean?
Here’s the trouble: When I make waffles, I am careful about measuring... READ MORE
Do You Love Your Toaster?

In the discussion following my recent post about my re-found love of waffles, Jamie asks about feeding the masses at breakfast time:
Danielle…or any mom of many, for that matter…do you have just one waffle maker? or several? or how do you make waffles in a timely fashion for the whole brood?? I LOVE the idea of homemade waffles and know my ten little ones would as well, but dread the notion of... READ MORE
Enjoying Innovation

I made rice crispy treats and minty brownies for the Super Bowl on Sunday, and in the process I got to use one of my favorite kitchen innovations: nonstick aluminum foil.
Are you familiar with this stuff? I grabbed it off the shelf at the grocery store once on a whim, and as soon as I tried it, I was hooked. At the time I was making my family’s favorite lemon bars often, and the filling had an awful... READ MORE
Ending Autumn Tastily

While Rachel’s been sadly taking down her autumn decorations, I’ve been dealing with the edible remains of the fall season. This weekend I made stock out of our turkey carcass, and being kitchen-frugal like that always inspires me to do more.
Back in October when we carved big pumpkins, I bought two pie pumpkins for Camilla and her cousin to decorate with washable markers. I’d intended to use them... READ MORE
The Dish of Death

Rachel’s recent post about ridding your house of fruit flies came to mind recently.
What made me think of it?
Oh, I don’t know ... perhaps it was the clusters of bitty bugs that seemed to cover every surface of my kitchen and the swarms that swirled around my head as I tried to wash dishes or prepare dinner or (forget about it) eat a meal.
When we got desperate enough, we tried Rachel’s jar technique... READ MORE
My Husband's Genius Idea

Once you have a certain number of kids (perhaps one), you come to realization that cups are a problem.
The problem of cups even came up as a topic of discussion in this past weekend’s Homemaking Coffee Talk.
For those who are blissfully ignorant of the cup problem, I’ll walk you through it: A kid drinks from a cup and leaves it on the kitchen counter. Then, 12 seconds later, when she needs another... READ MORE
Skillet of Doom
Posted by Arwen Mosher in Food on Monday, May 18, 2009
On Saturday I made one of my favorite potato indulgences*, which is baked in a skillet with a metal handle.
I use this skillet almost every day. I generally use it on the stove-top. During stove-top use the insulated handle is fine to grab with a bare hand.
But on Saturday I was not using the skillet on the stove. I was using it inside the oven. It baked for an hour. The entire skillet, including... READ MORE
