Playmobile vs. Lego

Which do you choose?

In the comments section of our post on gift ideas for boys, there was a lot of talk of Lego’s and Playmobile. I’m curious: does every household with boys choose one or the other?

We have always been a Lego family but I’ve long been enamored by Playmobile. I recently picked up a sweet Christmas set at a yardsale and love it. I’m thinking about getting more but as we already own two tons of Lego’s I’m... READ MORE

Lego Madness

Keep your boys entertained

Several online friends have posted a link to this clever and sweet Lego Nativity. Have you seen it?

I’m going to help my boys get started on this once school is out, and we’ll see how things go. If you try the same, keep us posted on your results! (And yes, I realize there are girls out there who might also enjoy this! Fun for all!)

Building for Science

NASA and LEGO join together

Got any LEGO fans in your house? Or kids who are interested in space exploration? How about both?

If so, you might enjoy reading about this new endeavor: “NASA and LEGO Join Forces”.

As part of the first step of the partnership, astronauts on board the International Space Station will build models out of LEGOs while schoolchildren watch and make similar models in their classrooms.

According to the... READ MORE

Sacramental Lego

a creative way to commemorate the day

I was enchanted by this email from reader Becky Thomson, describing a special Lego project her husband worked on with their son as a gift to William, who is receiving his First Communion this year:

“I just had to tell you what my husband and kindergartener made for the First Holy Communion of our second grader, William. We have three boys (ages 10, 8 and 5) so hardly a day goes by when they aren’t... READ MORE

Your Son Will Love This

I feel very confident about that

If you have boys, you probably have Legos. If you have more than one boy who has had more than five birthdays, you probably have more Legos that you’d care to admit.

That’s the boat I’m in—the boys would enjoy Legos for every single birthday, but we already own ALL the Legos. It feels that way, anyway.

Imagine my utter delight, then, when one of my boys turned me on to a new line of Lego building... READ MORE

More Biblical Bricks

an astonishing illustrated Bible
The serpent tempts Adam and Eve

I thought of Rebecca’s Bible stories in Lego when I happened upon this gem of a site this week:

The Brick Testament

From the website:

“The Brick Testament is the largest, most comprehensive illustrated Bible in the world with over 3,600 illustrations that retell more than 300 stories from The Bible. Launched first as a website in 2001, then as a published book series in 2003, The Brick Testament project... READ MORE

Lots of Legos

a website your boys will love

If you have boys, then you probably have Legos. If so, you might enjoy a Lego a day, a clever blog that offers a Lego-themed snapshot almost daily.

Go check it out. And special thanks to Suzanne at Blessed Among Men for introducing the boys of Testosterhome to this fun site!

The Passion of Christ in Lego

Speaking of things being different with boys, take a look at what two young friends of mine have been up to.

Behold: Christ’s Passion, Death & Resurrection in Lego.

According to their mom, it took Dan & Peter Bernetsky (16 & 14) about 30 hours spread over several weeks to assemble, light, shoot, gather scripture verses and edit the whole thing. They wanted to share the Gospel with their younger siblings... READ MORE
