Pray for Yousef Nadarkhani

Iranian pastor to be executed for refusing to deny Christ

Today Christian Pastor Yousef Nadarkhani will face an Iranian court and be asked for a fourth and final time to deny Christ and convert to Islam.

If he refuses, he’ll be sentenced to death for apostasy, probably within the week.

You can read more about his case here.

Meanwhile, we are asked to publicize his case to bring pressure on Iran to release him—and, of course, to pray for him and for the entire Christian community in Iran, which is suffering under brutal “crackdowns.”

The Speaker of the House just released a statement urging Iran to turn from this “dark path.”

A Litany to the Japanese Martyrs

Let's Pray for Japan

Blogger Pentimento has a lovely idea. Together, let’s pray a litany to the Japanese martyrs for Japan:

Our Lady of Akita, pray for us.
St. Peter Baptist, martyr and patron of Japan, pray for us.
St. Francis Xavier, patron of Japan, pray for us.
St. Paul Miki, martyr, pray for us.
St. Anthony Dainan, martyr, pray for us.
St. Anthony Ishida, martyr, pray for us.
St. Francis Nagasaki, martyr, pray for... READ MORE

Jesus Wept

I left my favorite rosary at home yesterday.

It’s quite ironic actually, as I was going to pray at a Holy Hour for Life, and the rosary I forgot was my “most pro-life” rosary, if such a thing can exist. The beads were created from roses we had received when our family was grieving in the aftermath of a miscarriage. Our baby girl, Grace Elizabeth, is especially close to me from heaven every time I... Prayers For Pardon

Asia Bibi & Said Musa need our prayers

Christians living in majority Muslim countries always need our prayer, but here are a brother and sister who need intercession urgently.

Asia Bibi is a Christian and mother of five sentenced to death in Pakistan for blasphemy.

Asia News has the best ongoing coverage of the case. Essentially she defended her faith when pressed by several women in her village to convert to Islam—and they hauled her... READ MORE

Martyrs In Mosul

image-by-wathiq-khuzaie-getty-images1

From the Hanc Aquam blog comes this sad report.

The Prioress of the Adrian Dominicans writes:

As of now, the five elderly sisters who have been holding down the Motherhouse are choosing to remain there because they do not want to lose their Motherhouse to the terrorists. She said most Christians are making plans to evacuate from Iraq and, as a consequence, she does not know what will happen with... READ MORE

A Saint to Emulate

Celebrating the feast of my patron

Today is the feast of St. Isaac Jogues and his companions. He’s the patron saint I chose when I got confirmed, so it’s a special day for me.

When I was a child we had a number of books about saints written for children and published by Ignatius Press. My favorite was one entitled St. Isaac and the Indians, all about the life of the early Jesuit missionary to the Americas.

Honestly, I’m not sure why... READ MORE
